what i mean is if you had a choice of getting on a medication that has been around forever and prescribed to tons of people or would you want the newest medication out there for your problem?
i used to be one that would wait and see how new meds did before i would even consider them but now that on several health issues ive already gone through all the regular medications im starting to open up and ask for new meds as soon as i hear of them..
i dont like the fact that im almost a test subject since usually the first year or so after coming out is when the lawsuits start from bad side affects but at the same time it could be the miracle (well not miracle but better than others) drug for what i need and i would just be waiting longer before i felt better...
which type are you? new medication or the tried and true medication?

Hi moon,
I am a little confused over the two terms 'old medication" and 'new medication'
Here in our country you would not get any medicine unless the medicine have been prescribed by a competent doctors.
Here the medicinal products have their respective date of expiry. If the expiry date is over you can not sell that medicine.
So what we do is to get new medicine, possibly under the same brand.

what i meant by "old medicine" is the medications that have been around for a long time and been given out by doctors a long time. not that its expired. "new medicine" being a new medication that they just discovered or just came out to be prescribed that wasnt available before. i guess my wording wasnt the greatest and should have used better terms

yeah but theres always the chance it may not work and you will just be put on another one anyways so newer doesnt always mean it will definitely fix the problem

I think I'd go with the old medication myself. It has a longer track record so you have a better idea of what to expect. You would probably even be able to go online and read pages and pages about people's experiences, good or bad, with the meds. The new meds might be great but they're more risky. Incidentally, this is basically the reason why I strongly prefer changing my diet or lifestyle to improve my health rather than medical intervention if at all possible...if, say, I decide I'm going to exercise more or eat broccoli more, I don't really worry about the "side effects" of those two decisions because people (including myself) have been exercising and eating broccoli for a really, really long time. Of course, it's easy to be all about the natural cures when you don't have any medical problems!

I am a firm believer in the tried and true medications of the past. they have been around so long for a reason. Sometimes I can be leary of newer medications. Something new may not have been researched fully enough before being put on the market.1 person likes this

i agree! i have been on older medications that worked better and i have also had medications that JUST came out and it seemed like i never was able to tolerate it and then short time after it was being recalled and the news was saying they were not selling it anymore. you just cant win if you have tried everything already but if i have a choice i rather go older or at least make sure its been out a few years

More than the past few centuries, man has developed the medical treatment process quiet efficiently and brilliantly. Latest instruments have been invented and treatment methods have been based on most newest and modern methods and techniques. Even then, in a few cases, you find fresh methods to be far less effective than ordinary old methods of treatment and quick recovery. Most of the times, these old methods (still in practice in the majority of the ruler areas of some countries) clearly surpass the prevailing modern techniques and instruments.
Modern methods have roughly wiped out the old methods for treatment of different diseases. People's behavior towards medication and treatment methods has also changed a lot.

methods other than medications such as tests i think have come a long way but some of the medications that have come out seem to just be recalled a year or two later

Yes, indeed, new medications come up quite often, as a result of the researches progressing all the time. Wgen I take medicines, especially the new brands, I always take the advice of my doctor. I would not take a medicine which I am not familiar without the advice of the doctor.

with my 3 weeks of bronchitis it was a cruel reminder of antibiotics that i cannot take or make me sicker that i had forgot to take note of.. i think i felt worse on them than off but i could tell it was working if i could just stick it out

It doesn't matter too much to me, the brand is the thing that matters. For me it has to be one people have heard of; like Advil. I wouldn't want to test out brand new medications that just came out either. When I'm sick I want to get better, not to be experiemented on.

For me, i prefer the new medication, but it has to be that i have seen a lot of proofs of its efficacy.
Those old tried and tested medicines are also good, but over the times it sometimes becomes obsolete.
Like for example, during those days they would treat a cough by boiling a herb but nowadays, you don't have to because it's already in a capsule form.
New medications are being made for the convenience of the people.

sometimes the newer ones seem to get pushed through the system too quick and get recalled soon after.. i try to give it a little while before i ask for it if its something i can wait on
