Help with Mcafee please

I have Mcafee internet security and i have noticed it seems to be slowing my lappy down it takes 8 hours to do a full scan!!Is this normal?I ensure it is always updated etc but i dont recall it always taking so long to scan and when updates are downloading it slows my lappy down then aswell.I now scan overnight as if i run it when online i get nothing done as it is so slow and freezes web pages anyone had this problem and any tips on resolving please i have defraged and disc cleanup and have over half my lappy memory free so what to do next i really dont know?

It's rubbish. As you have discovered, it's a resource hog. Get rid of it and get one of the free and very good antivirus programs like AVG or AVAST.

I have always paid for antivirus is it really that awful?and are the free ones any good?

I used McAffee when I first started getting online more than 10 years ago and I quickly discovered that it not only used a large amount of memory, but it was not all that good at detecting and removing malware. I switched to using Avast which I have used now for several years. I've found it to be very good, though I also use two or three other programs to scan for malware because there's no single anti-virus program that will find all types of malware.
