I used to add all the decomposable wastes from the kitcen into the decomposition pit. But It turned out to be really a big nuisance. There was a lot of bad odour coming out from the pit, with lots of flies and other dirty insects collecting near it. And at last the compost i got after 2 months was just sufficient for just a few plants. So i have decided to just buy composts rather than take so much troble.

We have a compost bucket. The things that can go into the compost pile from the kitchen is added to that and then taken out to the actual pile on a regular basis. We save our newspapers and line our pathways in the garden before topping it off with sawdust to walk on and keep weeds down. About all we bag up is tin cans that we don't get alot of and glass that is not reusable for storing grains or noodles. So our garbage output in minimal and we are improving our immediate enviroment.

Of course I compost. It's the easiest way to take a step toward environmental responsibility. There is way too much trash in the world, and garbage that would normally break down often stay preserved in the oxygen-less environment of major dump sites. Plus, free fertilizer for my garden and cheaper garbage rates. I also recycle.
