Why Should I Pay For Your Faults?

Hi MyLotters, I work from home and have an broadband connection. My work - social media + website development/management. Problem - Daily either there is a disconnection, or power cut or any other thing happening around. Result - My Client's work gets delayed due to such interruptions. And at times they are furious (so natural for anyone). It is not my fault but I have to take the blame thanks to the service providers. I called the customer care and they dont care either... It is always - Sir this is all ok at our end and you need to check your computer, and blah blah blah. I have two connections already but the other one is not worth as it is a data-card and quite slow. I know I have to find solutions here. But My Question to you is - Do you feel that you have to fill up the gaps and suffer due to the faults of others (the others here are not to imply your relatives or friends). Also, I might have put this in Q&A section but as my scope is daily life, I thought it would go better here. Thanks, theSids.

Hi sweetie. Don't i know that problem to well. Clients do not want to hear what problems you have. They want their work done. I sometimes feel like strangling my provider and fire the government. Luck to you. TATA.

Ok, now for the response - I do feel the same many a times but at end nothing is going to change and I simply email the client... he sends another one - Really... But India is supposed to be better in terms of Internet... I wish the client spend some days here at my place to see on his own to realize (of course, this is not the reason I invited you to India)

First off thesids you changed your avatar... , lots of changes for many of us. Oh my gosh see I only earn any form of money online and a few months ago my Comcast was down in my area for four days. I screamed, yelled and then patiently awaited. Did the Comcast people care. No, they kept switching me from representative to representative saying I am sorry. Well sorry does not cut it. What did I do, I went nuts, did a ton of extra housework, was ready to chew my nails, but knew I could not do that so I just kept busy but hurting every step of the way. I was told they would credit my account with $2.00. OMG what am I suppose to do with $2.00. There is nothing we can do when such arises, just muddle through and hope that clients understand by producing yet more better work so it compensates. So to a sense we do suffer to please when it is not our fault.

Hey GF We all are changing our avatars today and it is really great to be a part of this occasion... I am not sure of whether there is any specific reason or not but I just found 4 of my friends changing their avatars today... Hope we dont get lost and confused (remember that confused is my sole copyright) At least the Comcast people allowed you to buy some goodies(ok, candies only) for yourself or others... here they would never think of refund... and if anyone of the customer care mentioned, consider it a day... but dont expect the amount... they would go bankrupt for sure if they did anything like this

Hi Thesids, Love your new avatar! Ok, no you should not have to pay for the shortcomings of your service provider. Likewise, your customers should not have to pay for the shortcomings of your provider either. You should demand that your provider give you some sort of rebate for the bad service or find another provider. Is there another provider in your area? Now for the other side...the clients. Here is where you need to use your charm. Tell them right from the start that your provider sucks and there is the possibility of delays that are not in anyway your fault. Also, document all the times that your service is down.

hi thesids yes I feel the same way. If I were in your situation and the delays are clearly nothing you have done you really should not have to pay for the disconnections and power cuts. but try to make others understnad that lol.if your data card is on the motherboard and running slow you need to invest in a new data card. I had a problem getting on the internet and We eliminated all other causes and found I had a bad internet card on the motherboard, my son put in a new internet card and all was well again. hope you can find some solutions.

I had loads of problems recently with my service provider --- worth praisable is their patience ... they sorted all my complaints in time and now i seldom face any difficulty! It is never easy to deal with customer care people who are so used to come up with excuses.Hope you hop onto a better service provider ... that saves lot of time for you.Great day.

i have the same problems too with my internet provider. low and expensive..! and i have complain too with the customer care, but they answer often makes me dissatisfied. they just said that " please be Patient Miss"

The only solution I can think of is for you to change service providers. You client don't care how you do it as long as the work get done. Your internet connection is the least of their problems and if you want to keep your clients happy then you have to deliver as agreed otherwise you will have one unhappy client. Unhappy clients are bad for business.

Hello Sid, We had a broadband connection at home but it has not been working from the last June 2010. We registered many complaints regarding the same, the main problem was the engineers wanted to visit the place and in day time nobody stays at home. So the bad connection remained like for this reason then in October we shifted our home and the telephone is yet to be shifted. (We have given an application in last week for shifting our land phone). Just think we paid for the broadband connection along with telephone for this whole duration. My hubby talked the authority when he gave the application for transfer, our broadband was not working for long time and we wish to cut the services and need the telephone connection only. The official told him that they will check their complaint register and if a person visited our home find a locked home then it should be in the register, if nobody visited our home and did not attend the complaint then they will think about the refund for the broadband connection. We are waiting for the final result. In your case, you have to answer for the delay in work and you are not responsible for the delay. I felt your customers should understand your situation as the problem is beyond in your control.

I have had issues with my connection too and I don't think it's right at all that we should have to just be ok with it. We pay for a service and they should at least try to make sure we get it. Our livlihood can sometimes be based on their services and that is where the real problems come in. I think they should be out there right away finding out what is wrong..it might be an outside line issue.

hi, i have the same problem, well its kinda sad but there is no way i can solve mine, because when we enter a job we have to fulfill the requirements and to do that we need to analyse the job full and put all constrains into place before giving a time to complete the job. if the time we take to complete the job is longer than we estimated then we have to take the blame. if the boss sets the time then and we cant reason with him/her. then the boss is unreasonable. good luck with your job

Hi Jaiho, I kept up my promise I believe (things that rarely happen with me) For the signal of course, I would be interested... I already have two of them and both nearly frustrate me at times. The funniest response by one of them until today was "Your Network signal might be missing"... I wonder how could my call get through then

I know what is a power cut here : a 1 or 2 s cut that shuts down the desktop and resets the router every 3 or 4 years. I read the speed of your connection in another box, and I will not tell you what sort of internet connection I have : you would be jealous . Nobody likes to be blamed and to pay for the faults of others. Maybe should you recruit somebody just to be able to blame him/her by phone for these faults ?

Hi topffer, 1 or 2s every 3 or 4 years... Yes, I read that kind of things happen in the western countries and even my client (from the west) says this and also about the Internet... Hiring someone to get blamed... Quite a nice way to escape but I would feel uncomfortable for sure... no, cannot do it but that thought would persist on my mind for sometime now

I People can't live without electricity and internet today. In towns, we have no more power cut -- or like I said, 1 or 2 s not every year -- but you can still live in the countryside and enjoy 2 or 3 power cut / year . For internet it is more difficult to say, but connections are not perfect : when they work on the cable or phone lines, the connection can be cut during a few hours, and I don't know what would happen if a digger was cutting accidentally an optical fiber cable : 2 or 3 days without connection, I think.

Hi dear, Finally you are back in your shape. You look like my old friend, and the moment I saw the avatar, I just chedked the profile, then I sway your name, Oh, it is Sid only!!! - I didn't recognize the change from the photo, not joking, true. I had this friend named (Thampi), who was a writer, (no more now) and you exactly resembles him. .... Pay for your faults..... It is our practice that we have to pay for their mistakes. This is the principle which runs the world now and earlier also. This is the way the system works. They made the business for their profit and not for the customer service or satisfaction. There is no dedication or real service. They are much keen on something else, where if the 15th is your due date, where the fine/penalty of Rs 50 is charge or not. Their the they will show their experties and efficiency. Also, if you don't make the payment in time and also made in time and not reached to their account in time, and you say 1000 of sorries, they will listen first for all your sorries, and finally a fine of Rs 50 will not waive you. It is now their side. We know that if we throw a cat on to the air, it will bounce on their 4 legs/hands. Throw in any manner, cat will stay stand on 4 hands. Means, our complaints or empathy has no value. Whether it is power failure, computer problem, internet problem or whatever it is, we have to answer for it. If we get late to office, we have 100s of reason, trains were late, got up late, traffic jam, not well, no water, bus late, oh a list of reasons - but who has to time to listen any reason - are you late or not. Only one answer yes/no. Simply agree to it. Here in your (our) case also things are the same. we are dependents. In front of these corporates, what we are? Nothing. Just tune to the dance or dance with the tune. Means, we have to re-plan or shape our situations and conditions as per such situations. An answer is to be leveled to the circumstances and think what we can do in such situations. Our logical move - nothing can help other than this. As long as we depend on our basic things, we cannot act on it, just move as per their tune, or what else. Thank-s

Hi Thanks, First Thanks for mentioning that you did have some difficulty in relating with my new Avatar and also the fact that I resemble your friend - Thampi. It is great that I look familiar to you in my new Avatar. Now For Why I Think You Deserve the BR - 1. Your discussion handled the "Pay For Your Faults" thing and that I really appreciated. Unfortunately it is India and I have to accept this fact... nothing will be for the good of anyone except the Bureaucrats and Politicians - the aam admi - you hear quite a lot but it is all in speeches nothing in real.

Hello there my dear friend! So you really changed your avatar! Amazing look my friend, lol! I already commented about you with your long hair in my discussion. Honestly my friend,it's really a big problem on our side if we don't finish our work due to some internet connection problems. Given the fact that we always encounter this problems in internet connections,it is still our responsibility to finish our work. Can't blame the client if they will get mad at you especially if you have a deadline for it,business is business, right? Put it in vice versa, what would you feel if your employee wasn't able to finish his work just because of the internet connection problems...I guess you would say you could have done anything for it just to meet the deadline. See you around my dear Sids!
