My auntie dropped off to my place early this morning and she left the newspaper she just bought. So, while I reading the pages, I was struck with this good news for the Philippines. Yes, another Philippines pride, Danica Flores Magpantay, 17 years old was crowned the Ford Supermodel for 2011. As the winner of the title, Danica or Ica as many calls her received a $250.000 modeling contract. Ica's winning is not a doubt because she is not actually new in the business, hence it runs in the blood. She is taking up Fine Arts in University of the Philippines, and inherited her modeling genes from her mother, Supermodel of the World Philippines 1990 winner, Milagros "Lala" Flores.

Well, yes it is indeed a pride in the country. There are too many bad news in the country lately and that news is actually something to consider over those bad news.

Wow this is a good news for the Philippines, but what makes me curious more is the fact that it was Danica who represented the country, I mean I'm so surprise knowing she is already 17 years old!hahahaha, my God!it makes me getting older, grrrrr!I still remember watching Lala Flores bagged the Supermodel of the World Phils.title, I think she succeeded Cara Subijano. And now her daughter's turn and I am still single, gosh!Time flew so fast. But anyway congratulations Danica!

Yes it is really a great equalizer to all the bad news about cops going bad and criminals becoming worse. Congratulations to Danica and she made all Filipinos proud. She definitely stands tall now (no pun intended), and I know she will have more victories and prosperity to come.

I'm not really into this kind of competition but it seems to me that this contest is very much akin to Tyra Banks' America's Next Top Model. My only issue with these kind of contests is that even though there is a declared winner of that said contests, there are really few (sometimes not even the winner itself) who really turn out to be professional models. I have no doubt that Ms. Magpantay will do well in the modeling industry but I hope this contest will help her to improve in her career and not just rely on her winnings. Models should always rely on their work ethic and skills, not just on the recent contract they have. Agencies have been known to drop models if they get too much leisure than work.

Yes, another pride for our country. She's only 17. For me, she may not be blonde, white or look like a doll but definitely she has the true Filipina beauty and that what makes her stand out. I also like what she said in the interview, she accepts and contented for what she have right now.

I am so proud of her. She really deserves the title. I agree with you that she inherited her modeling genes from her supermodel mom. That's a great achievement for a young girl like her.

Yes, I definitely admire her... I'm sure Filipinos are really proud of her too. She really does look like professional model already, I heard her sister is as a model too and her mom won he title a decade or two ago.

hello maean! i have watched the news early this evening and i am very proud for Danica. To think that she's only 17 and the first Filipina ever to bag the award is something truly to be proud of, by every Filipino alive. It's worth rejoicing such news, for a change to the usual news content that we get to hear and watch everyday. Hope there will be more Filipinos who will make a name for themselves in every endeavor imaginable, in the international scene.
