Where would our nation be without the R&D fundings of forensic science? As President Obama calls for responsible fundings of education and research and developments republicans may go forward with a slash and burn approach. Forensic science has offered our nation the most brilliant 21st century resolves. Are such sciences worthy of America's full financial support?

How much does the federal government invest in forensic science each year? How much investment comes from the states? What slashes and burns to science have republicans specifically proposed? Do you believe the government has constitutional authority to invest in science? If so, please show me the particular text in the constitution that authorizes these investments and how they do so....no generalities, I want specific clauses or amendments and an explanation of how science investment falls under that particular authority.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a 'more' perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, 'promote the general welfare,' and secure the Blessings of 'Liberty' to ourselves and our 'Prosterity;' do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." (emphasis added)
For starters!;) How much the federal government invests in forensic sciences, you'd need to do your research ... know what programs Rep. Paul includes in his slash and burn proposals ... I'll be glad to further discuss that with you xfahctor ... you know I will!! ;)

So is the President now picking and choosing the Science that he wants to support? That's a new one. There is a lot more to Science than just forensic science. There is chemistry by which you would not be able to type on a computer or get medication for certain diseases, there is biology by which you would have a hard time understanding the natural world around you, and so on. Science is more than just one specific department.
But let's deal with reality instead of fantasy. The Federal budget does need to be slashed. The Federal government is only responsible for a part of the funding that goes to schools. The rest of that comes from the States in the form of property taxes. Yes, our local property taxes fund local schooling. The government involvement is more about student loans, grants, some vouchers, and certain programs such as No Child Left Behind. They are not responsible for balancing school budgets, managing teacher salaries, classroom conditions, and whatever else is tangible within the school system.
The government can cut spending on education if they look at smart ways to spend it instead of just throwing it at "favored" individuals.
