My friends 14 year old granddaughter came up with a real good question. She asked that when we are dreaming and someone is in our dream then who's dream are we really in, theirs or our own. I would sure like to hear your opinions on this.

I think that if we dream it so it is our dream and you can say to the person we dream about " hi i had a dream on you last night " And the girls always what the their boys we dream about them so they ask: "Did you dream about me last night" It doesn't mean that when you dream you are in someone dream, only if he dream about you..

Makes sense. Do you think that when two people dream about each other at the same time that their dreams are connected?

I believe that two people who dream about each other are very connected in some way. I could be way off on this but I don't know of any other answer.

I don't think so, but i am sure these people are very connected cause they need to be very close to each other so at the same night both will dream on each other..

I think it's just inside our own heads, but wouldn't it be interesting if we could get into each other's dreams? Scary potentially though...

It would be scary cause we might learn something that we don't want to know.

Or we might have somebody else learn something that we don't want them to know.

How true. Dreams has always fascinated me. I have read books that tel you what certain things mean but they never seemed to be right.

As a therapist I used to be involved in dream-workshops and what we discovered there was that every person in a dream represents parts of the dreamers personality. This gels well with the Zen philosophy that states that we are all one, and that there is no real separation. _Derek

If you want to read books on Zen, then a good one is a book called, Three Pillars of Zen, but Roshi Philip Kapleau. I also have a link to my Zen blog on my profile and I have some Zen books on there.. _Derek

Hi velvet, I think that this young lady is very bright to have even thought of this and should be congratulated. I personally think that we are in our own dream but only because that's the only way I can understand it at the moment. There is so much that we don't understand that I would never tell the girl that it has to be my way. Let her keep thinking for herself, that's how new ideas are developed. Blessings.

I have to agree Ppose123. That is a pretty deep question to come from someone of her age. That shows that she is using her mind by being inquisitive. I can't remember thinking like that when I was her age.

hi v elvet we can only be in our own dream in our mind unless we are very psychic and very few are that psychic. If we could get into someone elses dream that would really be something different. We are dreaming in our own mind in our own bed in our own home so yes its our dream. we can dream about anybody but that would not mean we were in someone else's dr eam. If others dream of us unless they tell us so how would we not, AS minds are not connected to theirs at all.

You have a good point there. I have dreamed of someone and on the same night they dreamed of me. Where does that connection come in at? Some of the people that this has happened with I am very close to. Others are just acquaintances.

That would be crazy if that were true... like if we can really meet each others in our dreams. I have a lot of nightmares with people I don't want to see, I wished they wouldn't come into mine.

I think it would be exciting to meet in each others dreams. I haven't had a nightmare for years. I often wonder what their message is.

The human mind is CRAZY. If you ask me. Just insane. The things we dream about are often ideas and thoughts and scenarios floating around somewhere in our subconsciousness... I wonder. It's weird to think about, but entirely possible I guess.

It is strange what the human mind can do. The dreams are coming from somewhere. Is it our minds or something else planting them. Will we ever know.
