The figurehead on the good ship Dawn

I have a strange mind. As I'm getting beaten up by physical therapists, being made to exercise, get my body into weird positions, I think of discussion titles. Yesterday he had me hang the top end of my body over the front of a table, hang down and then lift up. When I was up, I felt like I was one of those figureheads on the front of a sailing ship. And I was thinking "fear of falling", "seasick", and "the bow of the good ship Dawn"... Well you have to admit it's more entertaining that sitting there going "ouch", "ow", "eeek", "yow"...

My PTs always said I was pretty good about not complaining. Well, I've only had about a dozen rounds of PT and NONE has been as bad as the first time!

my first round was much worse than the later ones, but I never let it get as bad as the first time before I went back to the doc!

I did let this go too long. But last time it was for Fibromyalgia, last time for a shoulder injury, so totally different treatments.

the first time was not bad for me, but it wasn't for an injury, this is much more painful!

I enjoyed a piece of exercise equipment like that, years ago. They called it a Roman Chair. I also did the back hanging thing there. I need to be somewhere where they will be making me work at something. I like being here and the days that my brain comes up with new stuff are really great. So I see the figurehead of Dawn on the Viking warship heading off to pillage the coastal towns.

I applaud such a healthy attitude. Actually (especially after looking at your avatar) you'd make a good one of those ship figurehead thingies...flowing hair, serene smile...would you be nekkid?

not unless I get one of those Hollywood dressers to tape the sisters up so that gravity doesn't mess up the image

LOL! I really like the mental image I get with your title, Dawn, although if you don't mind I envision you with more clothes on than most "figureheads" generally have.

Yes, we do have to play games with our mind when we are in pain. It is pretty amazing what the mind can do especially when you figure we are only using less than half of its capacity. Self discipline goes a long way. Being able to take yourself away should help in dealing with your hubby too. haha

Sure now you say self discipline now that I didn't do most of my exercises yesterday... (bad Dawn)

I hate to have to say this, but the one thing that I wish was true about physical therapy is that it would do more for you than it does. It was about six years ago that I badly messed up my back and part of the course of treatment that I had to go through was to go to physical therapy three times a week. There was really only one thing that they would have me do that really made a difference for me and that was peddling the stationary bike. I could have done that at home and really have wasted a lot less of my time.

The last time I was on PT, they got me on an exercise program, and some of those exercises are things that I still do. What they are doing now is helping some, but I am told that "frozen shoulder" can be really tricky. (goody)

I kind of envisioned the hood ornament on an old Chevy... Hope the getting beat up is working. Just think only a few more weeks/months to go!

I think of it this way - which would I prefer, cold and wet or bugs in my teeth? Maybe I'll just stick with the PT.

Weeks, I hope. Otherwise my insurance will need a special authorization. Somehow the ship image is more romantic than the Chevy...

Yeah, but the Chevy thing is more sexy... So what do you want? Romantic? or Sexy?

Jesus, you really have a dirty mind :D. Physical therapists do everything for money, but that doesn't mean that they can have some fun along the way.Making you stand in different positions, and the sounds you make, might be funny fo amatures, but that should be heard in order to know that they have done their work

Ha ha...I wouldn't be able to 'think' and in pain...words like 'ouch', 'ow', 'ee' are the only things that would come to mind! I'm going to add ' a strong mind' along with 'patience' to your virtues :) I've ignored the 'crazy' bit in the other discussion!

Sometimes things strike me funny that way, although if I'd been in really bad pain, I"m sure I wouldn't have been laughing.

That's for sure...they told me at the dentist too to look deeply into the picture they have in front of you and concentrate on it instead of the pain..but when the dentist has one knee on your chest and is trying to extract a tooth it's mighty hard to focus on the picture! LOL

hi dawn I should have used my imagination too when they did that too me. they had a pulley contraption hung over the door that I was supposed to yank down as hard as I could. I did get the guy the Trappist to laugh when I asked if this was a new version of the rack a torture machine that pulled people 's arms and legs clear out ouchi. yes a figurehead on the good ship Dawn is better than screaming ow , eek and so forth. I did tell the young student therapist that i did not know my arm would go into a pretzel shape but she did not laugh at all.And when I claimed now my left arm was longer than my right one she actually scowled.

WE had a pulley thing I had to work also. Both of the PTs that I see have a sense of humor, thank goodness.

I join you in thinking of discussions to create. As any who follow me they know i come up with some weird ones. I hope people have fun with them. One thing that helps me is I immediately see words as pictures. You as a figurehead was priceless.
