TSA holding Monopoly

TSA has put a stop to private security in airports. After repeated reports of assault and mishandling, they have decided that a private company cant do better. This has been proven false, but hey, if it were up to you, wouldnt you knock out your competition? In my opinion, this is just more "government Agencies gone wild". http://stossel.blogs.foxbusiness.com/2011/02/03/tsa-we%E2%80%99re-the-best/ I find this ridiculous, especially in the face of all that has been happening. What do you think?

One or more of the private security companies will sue and TSA will lose. I'd prefer we do away with TSA and save taxpayer dollars. Let the airports, airlines, etc. provide for the security of its resources, people, and customers. I'm sure air fare would go up, but then if you fly, you pay. Not, I don't fly, I pay.

thats so true. They dont cover security for bars. maybe the airports need to cough up for their own security.

I was going to add that we don't pay for security for trains, when I remember...Oh, we just subsidize them (Amtrak).

Yes the TSA currently holds a Monopoly but it is because of how the law is written is that it seems that the Airports are completely happy with having TSA in them still so this is a Market Monopoly where the market is demanding this company/agency stay in their Airports. To give counter reference. USPS is a Monopoly on your mailboxes but the market would have no issue with FedEx or UPS getting in on the action also USPS is a Government organization that is generally bankrupt.

good point, you are right regarding the post office. But the original creation of TSA was after two years, airports could switch. 16 have already.

And our delivery companies just bring packages to our doors. How about if we had a mail box, a ups box, a fed ex box etc? And these companies could put out their own postage. It just would have to be different from a "stamp"

The problem is that in doing this, they are breaking the law, since the law passed by congress allows for airports to opt out. the TSA does not have the authority to force themselves on airports.

Laws? who needs stinkin laws? I just responded to a discussion about one new law you could create. Mine is that any law enacted pertains to ALL. Nobody is above the law. The way it stand now, EPA, DHS, TSA, everybody and Obamas friends are exempt.

I have to agree with xfactor, the law stated they had to use the TSA for only two years, I think, then they could opt out in favor of contracting with private security companies. This is in direct violation of the law. Of course, we should know better by now not to expect this administration to follow the law.

we should know better by now not to expect this administration to follow the law. exactly! It is nice when you dont have to follow your own laws. Pick and choose what works for you and your department. If they allow airports to pick their own security, they would have no need for existence.

Bingo! Our government is our enemy and we have brought some of this on ourselves by condoning corruption, lies, deceit, and very low standards for those we "elect" to serve US, but serve only themselves.
