I normally cook if I am alone. It is very lonely to eat alone outside. So I will cook any simple meals that I know. The problem is I like to add MSG in my cooking. Some of my friends really can do without the MSG but I can't. They suggested me to exchange the MSG with some sugar but I just don't like the taste after that. I know that too much of MSG is bad for the body. What is your opinion in adding MSG in your cooking? Any suggestions for the replacement of MSG?

Frankly speaking I did tried some food where they put sugar instead of MSG. I can tell you that it didn't mixed well with my taste. Maybe I am so used to the MSG taste. But how I wish that I do not need the MSG because I know it is bad hehehe.

Good morning, alokijon..MSG, is a chemical and I do have a phobia of adding MORE chemicals to the foods we consume. There is already FAR TOO many chemicals in the foods we are purchasing or in the processing of those foods! I am NOT to sure of the purpose of MSG..a flavour enhancer...and tenderizer??? What is the purpose? If either above is the reason, flavour enhancer---there is a kazillion wonderful, natural spices in the world to give your food that extra zip...and if used as a tenderizer...Papaya does the trick perfectly, whilst also enhancing the flavour! Many, many persons are highly allergic to MSG, and it is widely known as a trigger for migraines! Use the "Search the Web" here on "myLot to find out what you are consuming in MSG? Have a spectacular day..and Cheers!

Good evening (920pm) here in my country. Well MSG is to make my food tastier. I noticed that too much of it makes my head a bit dizzy. About the migraine, Oh yes it did trigger my own migraines a few weeks ago. The problem for me is that without the MSG my soup and so on will become tasteless.

I apologize...Good evening. You must be somewhere in Asia..with 12 hours time difference. I am wondering if you are new to cooking and have not yet, explored the world of Herbs and Spices, and using MSG as it is a part of your heritage. I really think you will enjoy discovering new flavours...and learning the use of other, beneficial and healthy herbs. Have you tried making your own Chicken, Veggie or Beef Stock, for bases for your soups? Have a nice evening...Cheers!

No problem. You don't have to apologize, I just want to throw a joke by telling the time different. Yes I am in Asia (Malaysia). About cooking, I am not new to it it just that I only can cook simple food/meals. I am still single and I not a great cook. Since I was young, I have seeing my family and most of the people around me add in MSG in the food. Well not in a big amount. The MSG that popular in Malaysia is "Ajinomoto". By just adding a little bit of the Ajinomoto like just put a pinch of it will make the food delicious. I am so happy if you can share any substitutes for MSG.

I've never met anyone who actually adds MSG on purpose! Most of us cook our own foods so we don't have the additives like msg that are so bad for us. If you could ever get away from it you would learn to enjoy natural tastes a lot more. Why do you use it on purpose?

Yes I add it on purpose. After reading the responses here, I am amazed of how people are never adding any MSG in their food. Here, most of the people use it very often.
