I was wondering how many people have slept on a featherbed. One of my grandmothers always had them on her bed & one didn't.I loved them when i was growing up but she was the only one that had them. I'll be honest i loved about everything at her house that i can recall. I was happier at her house than i was anywhere. She never had big fat featherbeds like alot of people did. When i married my husband's aunt had the prettiest bed i ever saw. It had a big ol' fat featherbed on it w/a colored sheet under a crocheted bedspread that she had made.I use to tell her how pretty i thought it was & that i always had the desire to jump in the middle of it. I could jump back then, lol. She always told me to go right ahead but of couse i never did. I still have feather pillows that my grandmother made from her featherbed when she stopped using it. I wouldn't take anything for them & sleep on two of them every night, How many of y'all have ever slept on one??

Yep. Something about grandma's place that is always so comfy and cozy. I loved mine too. As far as a feather bed I can only remember sleeping on one and that was when I was with my third husband and we were staying with friends after partying one night. It was very comfy, like sleeping on a cloud, BUT it slumpted into a C shape and it was hard to get up and out of in the morning.

Once. And I've never forgotten it! I was a little kid, & someone carried me to bed because, as usual, I'd been up late listening to the adults. We were visiting a "Miss Tilly," a really sweet lady in our church, & apparently my Mom & Grandmother allowed me to stay overnight, since I was sleeping so soundly, & Miss Tilly agreed to take me to church the next morning.
I don't recall if I dreamt, but it's likely I did. I do know I didn't have nightmares--which I often had. When I awoke I had no idea where I was, but I definitely knew I wasn't at home, as it felt as though I were lying on the softest, fluffiest, coziest of clouds! When I arose, I could see my entire body print which went deep into the mattress. I just felt such a sense of wonderment as I touched the incredibly soft thing, & wished we had one at home.
It was a very special Sunday. When I stepped outside, not only was the Spring day extra-fresh & cool, but over everything was stretched a full double rainbow!
The whole day was magic, & it began with that wonderful bed!

I also had feather pillows but had to get rid of them because everyone in my family has allergies...and the feather pillows were just laying in the closet do to no one being able to use them. I have never slept on a feather bed...I bet it's more warm and comfy then most!

Hi AL! I have to say that my experiences with "feather pillows"
wasn't quite as wonderful! The feathers would always poke me in
the face and the pillows always smelled like, well foul! After
my last fiasco with them I swore never to buy another one! I
do remember sleeping on my Grandmother's feather pillows and
them just being way to flat for me. Oh yeah, that was another
thing. I have to sleep on three very fluffy pillow to breath
because I have a "deviated septum" (need nasal surgery) and
the feather pillows were always to low for me. I'm glad that you
at least can enjoy them and have fond memories~

Good morning Opal, thanks for responding. Bigmama made big fat pillows & i love them. I hang them out in the hot summer time & that keeps them fresh smelling. I have washed them to. I sleep on two of them every night. I have copd that i don't breathe well either. Thank u, i do have wonderful memories of them.

My in laws have featherbeds in their homes. Whenever i would sleep at their house, i just could not get comfortable. I guess i just need something a little firmer to sleep on than a featherbed. My inlaws are quite satisified, but it just isn;t enough for me.3 people like this

I've never slept on a feather bed.I bet they are pretty comfortable as long as the pointy part of the feather doesn't poke through. I've got pillows before where the bottom of the feather would poke through and poke me.

I had a feather comforter and pillow when I was younger but I developed allergies (sneezing) and had to stop using it. Can't remember why I had a feather comforter and no one else did.

I have feather (down) duvets, but my mattresses are all modern. My pillows are feather though and I couldn't live/sleep without them. I've always loved the thought of a down filled mattress though. Sounds so soft and luxurious when you read about them in books. lol

They used to make them (actual feather mattresses) for the 'gentry' in the old days, but today, they call them duvets and put them on top of mattress, much like a bedspread. Duvets are wonderful to sleep under though.

Hi, Lady....Oh, this does bring back memories. My grandmother had one of the big fat featherbeds and when I spent the night with my grandparents, I got to sleep in it. The house didn't have electric heat; they used a wood stove in the center of the house, and I would just burrow down into that bed and it was such a good sleep. The room had two beds in it but I always chose the featherbed. My brother got the other bed. I think we were seven and eight years old at the time.

My husband talks frequently about th e comfort and warmth of his grandmother's feather tick. He was just a small lad when she passed away, so I have always attributed his fondness to nostalgia.

I have never slept on a feather bed so I cannot tell you whether they are comfortable or not although it sounds like it! I have feathers in my doona and that is about it! I don’t suffer from allergies so I may be okay with one. Wouldn’t mind finding more about them myself...

I frankly telling that, without any shy feel, i am sleeping on the land only. No bed, no feather, no luxury. Even i get official position also i will be sleep on the land only. I like it only.
Just 2percent of families in my villages are using beds.
98percent of the people are in poverty. They donno about beds also.
Sorry to share this sad news with you my friend.
have a nice day,
god bless you.

I have never had a feather bed. I do have a feather pillow and a coat that is feathers inside. The coat constantly has feathers poking out of it and drives me nuts. My pillow does the same thing but I put three pillow cases on it and it keeps them from poking through now. My sister had a feather bed and it was amazing how nice it felt.
