COLUMBIA, S.C. -- An African-American lawmaker in South Carolina said Tuesday that stricter illegal immigration laws would hurt the state because blacks and whites don't work as hard as Hispanics. Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/02/09/black-sc-lawmaker-hispanic-immigrants-hardest-workers/#ixzz1DTItYYD5 Talk about stereo types. What if a white lawmaker said black people make the best fried chicken? I am so sick of this double standard. No matter what your race or nationality, you have to admit this is a stupid statement. Do white people not work hard? how about chinese? They built our railroads didnt they? Does this disgust you as much as it does me?

Yes, the statement is stupid (there are no facts to support it) and it p*sses me off. Now, this particular lawmaker may not work very hard, but I sure as heck did. And I still work pretty darn hard even in retirement. (I'm keeping my answers short, because I have an appointment in a little bit...)

OK, I'm lazy. Guess I better go down to E. Lohman and pick me up a hardworking brown day laborer to finish MyLotting/cleaning/etc. for me. I'll just lay around and watch TV and eat bonbons the rest of the week.

I agree, it seems the "victims" do love to keep this issue alive!

It is the us versus them mentality. It benefits nobody in the long run.

It's called "politicking" at its worst. It perpetuates deception and gives "victims" a "leg up" by making others "enemies" and using, for example, the Muslim takiyya and other manipulative "politically correct" devices to lie, distract, disarm, and disable that perceived enemy. You may recall one BHO recently telling hispanics that conservatives who disagree with his policies are "OUR ENEMIES".

You will see the racist stereotypes. You and a few others will realize that racism isn't just white people believing or repeating stereotypes. The rest will make excuses for it, just as they made for Harry Reid's comments about Obama. They're not racists, the poor little dears, they're just out of touch or misspoke or something. Here are some definitions that will help. These are from the University of Delaware's mandatory course on race relations: “A RACIST: A racist is one who is both privileged and socialized on the basis of race by a white supremacist (racist) system. The term applies to all white people (i.e., people of European descent) living in the United States, regardless of class, gender, religion, culture or sexuality. By this definition, people of color cannot be racists, because as peoples within the U.S. system, they do not have the power to back up their prejudices, hostilities, or acts of discrimination. (This does not deny the existence of such prejudices, hostilities, acts of rage or discrimination.)" See, he can't be a racist because he is not white. Although he is a lawmaker, he is powerless as a non-white person in the US system “REVERSE RACISM: A term created and used by white people to deny their white privilege. " “A NON-RACIST: A non-term. The term was created by whites to deny responsibility for systemic racism..." The point is, you can't win. Only whites are racists and there are no non-racist whites, they just made that up. This guy is black and so he cannot be racist, although he might be bigoted, I think there's a little leeway for bigotry definitions. If he were white, then we would consider his remarks racist, because the U of Delaware has defined this for us.

That's part of the problem in America. Our institutions of higher learning have been infiltrated by social engineers who rearrange truth to fit their agenda.

You have to give them their due. They do work very hard and sneaking over the border to get here...They do work very hard to get the rest of their family here...They do work very hard to collect as many benefits as possible as soon as they get here such as food stamps and medicaid...They do maintain their language no matter how long they live here. Yes you do have to give them their due....

adoniah! I was getting worried for a minute there, but I kept reading and I have to agree. Irish - I know what you mean, we have a huge hispanic workforce here. as a matter of fact, you can not get concrete poured around here with out some cumbia playing on the radio. Some work damn hard and others - not so much. Gee, sounds like a lot of races.

Yeah, and yet where are all those people who bashed Meg Whitman for having an illegal alien employee that she was paying some $24/hour. Somehow that is "abuse" and this is just fine.

Around here the hispanics are the laziest race. They are primarily on the welfare system and not working.

Yes it does!! I hate any form of racism. Before I came to the States I have never been exposed to any type of racism and I was shocked at how much it affected life in America.

Before I really started paying attention to this, I would be outraged at this kind of crap. These days, I'll rant about it still (I love to rant!), but I've really come to expect it all. In either 2003 or 2004 maybe, I was dating a girl whose favorite show in the world was America's Next Top Model. Now, I'm not one of these manly men who will bend over backwards to deny watching reality TV. Some of these girls were hot, so I definitely watched the show with her. While I was checking for skin, I was on about how horrible they all looked. But anyway... There were a few black girls on the show, one of whom was raised in a majority white community. The other black girls gave her so much sht, saying crap like "you're black; accept it and act like you're black!" And I've since seen this type of crap accepted everywhere and from everyone unless it's a white person. Then, of course, it's racism and the entire country has to be reminded for a month via MSM just how horrible America is to minorities. Stereotypes aren't wrong or taboo in any way. Only the negative stereotypes said by the person of the wrong color are considered wrong. So that's definitely the wrong approach to take. But, you know - it makes a whole lot of people feel better to create and abide by different standards for different races. It eases guilt. "Black people" and "chicken" can't be used in the same sentence by a white person. I remember here on myLot some poster caught crap for saying they would fix a roasted chicken if they had an opportunity to fix dinner for the president. I don't understand the world sometimes. The separate standards don't make things better in any way. But since we're now trying to run the world on people's feelings instead of anything resembling common sense, we should be lucky these minor dumb-a$$ things are more widespread in America than things like terrorism.

Thank you for finding the bright side! As a "white person" it offends me to no end. I work in an area that I have customers of all walks of life. I specifically save my mexican jokes for mexicans. But if it is approached in the right way, it will be taken the right way. then they will tell me gringo jokes, I laugh. If you cant laugh at life, its a sad life indeed.

Being hardworking needs no race isolation. It depends on the person him/herself. Even if you are white, black or whatever but you do not show real quality work out there, there's no use and their skin color will not be able to help them. It is sad that we people are sometimes or oftentimes being judged by our color/race, but we just have to show them what we've got! :)

I agree with you. race makes no difference. Every race race has hard workers, every race has idiots. equal opportunity
