Does your name fit you?

Many people were given my first name during the 1950s. When people ask me my name and I tell them, they don't think that should be my name. It's plain, average, etc. I look plain, but anyone hanging out with me knows that I seldom do what plain, average people do. So does your name fit you? If it doesn't, what name would you choose for yourself and why? I like Desiree when I'm in a sexy mood. I was born near St. Briget's or Goddess Brigette's birthday. I think Brigetta would be a cool name. When I'm writing, I like the name Jeannevieve pronounced in French. So do you like different names for different moods, too?

Desiree is a very pretty name. My name fits me real well. When I was in grade school, back in the 50's, many of the kids had the same name as mine. It was common and ordinary. I was adopted as a child and my birth name was Georgia. So glad my parents changed it to a more common name. Although Georgia is a pretty name it just doesn't fit. Bottom line is I am content with my name and never go by any other name.

Living in the midwest and in school in the '50's, there were tons of girls by the name of Carol. It was popular at that time.

I think my name fits me. I like my name its short and was named by our local artist here because its my dad favorite artist. But when I'm still young my graders school mates were teasing me, adding my name to a seasoning LOL.

They spiced-up your name? We have lots of kids named Elvis for Elvis Presley now. I wonder if they get called Elvis Parsley.

I think my name fits me. No one's told me that it doesn't. But the nick name I've had at school and what some people call me (Sandy) doesn't really fit me. Sandy sounds more like a fun-loving person...which I am not. I'm plain and boring like my name...lol

I think my name fits me. It was uncommon in my generation, but it is common now. My middle name is something my dad said he made up, but I have run into it since then. I met a waitress on our last trip who had my same first name, and she loved my middle name, says if she has a daughter she wants to use it. My daughter gave my middle name to my first granddaughter. No, my name is not Gerty or Gertrude. I guess the only time I ever used different names was when I was a clown (garden gerty comes from then. I also was a character 'Tilda)

Now we know where Garden Gerty came from. How wonderful to be a clown. To create happiness and laughter in others. Am ade up middle name, he must have felt it sounded/went really well with your first name. Neat that your daughter liked it so much that your grandaughter now has it. Take care.

So your Dad was ahead of his time. Iknew someone who took part of his wife's name and part of his name to give to his child. She was April and He was Jason. Their daugher was Aprijay (pronounced oprey-j'ai like in French). Anyway, I thought that was the coolest name.

Originally I was named after a famous Naval hero, a queen and then my last name was English. Ugh! In my teen years I came up with the nickname of Eve. I have had four last names since then. In 2001 I started going online and was hacked into several times and I didn't want to use my real name so I started using my great grandmother's name Rachel Sullivan. I love the name Rachel and felt the last name was traditional and was Irish as is my main nationality. I have used it all these years. If I could I would legally change my name to it.

You know, Rachel Sullivan does seem to go with Celtic Eagle really, really well. Terrific name, maybe you should write a novel and use it as a pen name or something.

I think my name fits me. It is Serbian in origin, although I am not Serbian at all, but by the time my parents were choosing a name for me, they decided to name me after my grandfather. Actually I am not satisfied only with the fact that my name doesn't mean anything special, not with the name itself. But it could be different, indeed... When I was younger I spent a lot of time thinking what name would be more appropriate for me and I had some ideas, but I never dared to tell my parents about them. I respect them too much to hurt them like this.

I don't like my name, I like my middle name even less and my parents had considered combining them into one name... Don't know that I like too many other names more, at least not female names... why do you think I have a male name as my screen name?

I've never wanted to be called anything else. Or not that I can remember! I went through a phase of shortening it when I was a teenager, and even went to the extent of embroidering it on the back of my jacket along with my boyfriend of the time's name. Yeuch! My big gripe is mispronunciation, but that is noone's fault. I use a less common version and I can't blame people for using the one they are most familiar with. It's nice when I'm abroad in Europe though, as people normally get it right first time there.

Glad your name fits you well. My Mother was going for a name that no one would pick on me for, have trouble saying, average. Of all the flowers in the world, I really don't care for lilies. I know someone named Rose, that's a nice flower name. I just think lilies are bland, dull, boring flower. So do most people. They're not even sold in flower stores here. Easter lilies are, but most people like daffodills, jonquils, etc, not lilies. Take care

Hi. writersedge. Yes, I would like to change my name. I have a few user names that I would like to use as my real name. It would be fun to change up my real name for something interesting.

In some cultures, you can change your name, like a teen becoming an adult or someone starting a new religion. Other than last name for marriage, names aren't usuall changed around here. Maybe you can use those names as pen names for writing. Thanks for responding and take care.

Oh yes...I think there are different names that would fit me better depending on my mood...I'm sure my boyfriend has a choice few too for certain occasions. That's a cool sexy name..I might like that one too. I think Lyric for my whimsical moods would be a great name.

Howdy Lyric. Limey Lyric! It would go well with a Seacaptain story. Hadn't thought of a musical name yet, I'll have to give that a shot, too.

That's pretty exciting. Congratulations to you and your family. My name means Lily. Not much I can do with that. Exp. in school when 1/3 of the girls had the same name. Nothing special about a lily. Take care.

I have an unusual first name. when I was younger, i didn;t appreciate it that much. i wanted to have a more common name like so many of my friends did. Now I am glad to hve a name that is a bit different. I think it inspires me to do things differently and to follow my own path.

That's cool and good for you. My Mom named me a common name because hers was different and she hated it. I don't hate mine, it's just a really boring, nothing name and I'm not boring or nothing. Oh well. Glad your name means a lot to you now.

The meaning of my name has nothing to do with me, now the person that my father named after wich was a miss brazillian had some things in common with me, like the smile. Funny.

With all decisiveness, YES! It more than does. After all my name refers to "Gabriel the Archangel" and thus, possessing the characteristics of an angel (not to be carrying my own chair, though).

I assume that carrying your own chair means the same as our "tooting my own horn" which means to brag or carry on about ones self. Welcome to Mylot. You're at 59 in the (). Glad you possess the Characteristics of an angel. Some parents aim so high. Thanks and take care.

it doesnt fit me either. The meaning of my name in Greek is peace, but thats not me. i often get frustrated, irritated, ill tempered, swift changes of mood, name it and thats me. i like fire sounds like flaming when i got angry, peace when im at peace, jolly when happy..what do you think?

You need a beautiful name that means ever-changing like the seasons. We'll have to think about it and work on it. What do you think now that I've said that? At first I thought stormy, but then you went off on another thought like flaming, angry, peace, and jolly. I once belonged to a group that we named Flaming Arrow society. Flaming Sun would be fun, but you also want it to mean anger, peace, happy, too. But who knows what mood the Flaming Sun is in? Cound be angry, happy, peaceful. We'll have to work on it. Maybe you should post it as a question to see if other people could help you? Interesting discussion starter.

Yeah I love a lot of different french names, especially if their pronounced correctly. I really love viktor, harry, stevie, jimmy, and many more. But my favorite name and the one that I would choose for myself is the name that was given to me upon birth. It was destined to be my name so I really felt compelled long ago to enjoy and revel in the beauty of my name, for you only really have one thats chosen.

Mine was chosen because all the other names my Mother wanted, my cousins had already named their kids. So to avoid confusion, she named me what she did. But I go to the hospital and there are 5 people with my name.
