I keep hearing this lie that union members somehow have a "right" to collective bargaining. Here is a simple lesson for those too simple to understand the meanings of simple words. Rights don't require membership dues. Rights don't require membership. Rights aren't something that someone else grants you... but they can be taken away. If collective bargaining was a "right" then every adult would be guaranteed it equally. Even management, or non union workers. Here's a hint. The minute you say that you are only looking out for the "rights" of those who pay you to do so, they aren't "rights" anymore. There is a right to work...but unions are against that. There is a right to free speech... but unions punish their members for speaking out agaisnt the will of the union. There is no right of "job security".. that is a myth, perpetuated by the liars who run unions. So, let's quit being little lying scumbags, union leaders. Let's start being honest here. Workers do have rights, but they don't rely on YOU to guarantee them... in fact, you are clueless to the very meaning of the word!

Herein lies one of the biggest differences between the "left and the "right"; the "right" doesn't think working people have any rights. Anyway, I agree workers don't have the kinds of rights guaranteed by the constitution but if they have a signed and ratified union contract they have every right to expect that contract to be honored. I've long conceded that all unions aren't perfect, in fact they're far from it. Some union leaders tend to forget which side they're bread is buttered on, so to speak and some union workers get "greedy" and become unwilling to bend at all even in extremely difficult times such as we face today. However, the Wisconsin workers seem to be willing to give back quite a bit, they just don't want to permanently give up their seat at the table. If Governor Walker weren't interested more in busting the unions than solving the budget issues, why won't he even negotiate? Annie

Why do you feel the need to twist my words here Annie. Never did I say anything close to what you say here. All I said is, if you have to buy something, it isn't a right. We all have the right to work, but we also have the right to freedom of association. Forced unionization is a clear violation of that right. As Gov. Walker said, there is nothing to negotiate. In a couple of weeks, another bill will be in the state legislature that will majorly reduce state funds to city and county governments. Tell me how the cities and counties will be able to keep paying the current benefits to their workers when the state money is being reduced? If this bill doesn't pass, layoffs are the only choice.

I didn't mean to "twist your words", Ted and I apologize if you feel that I did. I''m not in favor of "FORCED unionization" either but I'm very much in favor of the right to organize. You're wrong and so is Walker about there being nothing to negotiate; the unions have already agreed to the monetary and benefit terms, they're just not willing to give up collective bargaining permanently. Why is that so unreasonable? They're not demanding to keep the current benefits, they're willing to share in the sacrifice. Annie

It is unreasonable because of the next step, which is major reductions in state revenue to the city and county governments. If the city and county governments can't reduce the cost of benefits packages then they will be forced to lay off workers. 1500 state workers will receive lay off notices this weekend if this bill hasn't passed. Basically the state workers are just saying that they would rather see 1500 workers lose their jobs than give up collective bargaining. Of course, they're all just hoping that they aren't one of the 1500.
