A Sneak Peek to Poverty

Poverty if the root of all evil. True, people are forced to resort to the most desperate measures in times of hunger. They would be compelled to steal or the worse - kill in exchange of a few coins. Yet if we would just take a moment to look around, we are to be blamed. I noticed around here that there are large parcels of land. But only a few knew how productive those lands could be, if only they weren't LAZY.

I don't know if poverty is the root of all evil. I think poverty is a direct result of the sin of greed, which in today's society has the rich getting richer while the poor get poorer. One of the most devestating affects of poverty is the lack of education. People grow up in such dire straits that they don't have the time of the money to learn those things that are essential to climbing out of poverty. As a result, many choose the wrong paths in life. Those large parcels of land that you speak about most assuredly belong to someone. Will they allow individuals to etch out a subsistence from those lands free of charge. I doubt it. I know many poor people that are hard workers but simply do not have the knowledge or skills to climb out of their situations. To make a direct link between poverty and laziness is to ignore the bigger issues in our industrialized societies.

Well, seems that ghettos or ghetto type of mentality exists everywhere in the world and yes there are so many people that have sunken into the despair and hopelessness of poverty. Many have even resigned themselves to their fate. I grew up in one of the poorest communities in America. The South Bronx, and i have seen many similar scenarios that you mention. I have though also seen many situations where the people actually climb out of the poverty they were born into. Since you are a teacher, you are one of the most effective tools society has for helping the poor improve their lives. Helping build good learning foundations in our youth will most assuredly prepare our youth to learn what they need to climb out of their poverty stricken existence.
