ChipesterKhan chronicles - part 7 - Bitten, again!
I'm going to skip a few years just so I can finish my Volkswagen trail.
May 2010, 5 months after getting a Mitsubishi Celeste and having minor modifications to it's engine done (Installed turbo and minor body repair), as I was driving along E Rodriguez (after visiting my girl), A Volkswagen beetle crept up behind me and proceeded to shame me with it's speed. I chased after it, but it was much faster than I was. I was amazed and a nagging fire reignited in me. I had to go get another Volkswagen.
Whoever you are with the Red Volkswagen with racing stripes running along the driver's side, let it be known that you are the reason why I am addicted to Volkswagens again!
So I sold the Mitsubishi Celeste through Sulit and after scanning through the ads, found a volkswagen with aircon already installed in it. There were a couple more, but this one appealed to me because the owner was a resident of Waterfun in Sucat. I lived in Sucat from 2005 to 2006 so I knew where it was and just wanted to revisit the place again.
I asked Dave (my bassist and ex-boyfriend of my sis, remember him?) to drive me over to Sucat.
We saw the car parked outside and did an initial inspection. It looked ok. But the owner wasn't around.
So the next day I went back with my best friend Tippy and we checked the car out again. The owner was nowhere to be found. After a quick call he said he would be there in 15 minutes. SO out comes this little guy and we started talking.
He basically walked me over his Bug and I was satisfied, so I told him I'll think about the price and if I can amass the funds needed. His price sounded fair enough.
3 nights later, Dave and I went back to Waterfun and talked to the owner about possibly buying it from him. During the first 2 visits, the inspections we made were only aided by the moonlight and light from a lamp post.
On this night, I brought along a flashlight and went on a more thorough inspection and didn't like what I saw. I saw crude repair done on the volkswagen, an ugly decklid modification, ugly engine bay and even uglier interior. The body was in a somewhat solid shape (or so I thought). Finally, I told the owner I'd take it if he took out 30% of his asking price. We haggled back and forth until I produced enough money to appease him. He immediately took it and the beetle was mine.
I was feeling like I'd gotten the better part of the deal until 5 kilometers, along Sucat road, from the place of purchase the beetle broke down. There was no power. I ran out to check. Dave stopped and shone his light on me while I checked the engine. I finally concluded that the aircon compressor was robbing the engine of power and proceeded to dismantle it. I removed the fanbelt first and on autopilot, managed to remove the whole compressor under a lamp post with very minimal tools and aided by little light. It must've been the adrenaline that powered me through. A quick push from Dave and The beetle started again. It was uneventful til I got home.
Papers and other documents followed after 3 days.
The bug bit hard and now I was the proud owner of another volkswagen beetle!
