ChipesterKhan chronicles - part 8 - Getting to know Cop
What started out as an impulsive purchase turned into a deeper appreciation for the volkswagen beetle. Because of this volkswagen beetle I learned there were groups in the Philippines and that it wasn't really too hard to join the VWCP.
I first signed up online and then paid membership fees in November of 2010.
By then my volkswagen beetle had already received some modifications.
I had rented a car shop near us (which left the owner thinking I was loco) and proceeded to cut the bumpers off. I also removed the JJ Alternator and stock alternator and installed a 50 amp alternator. My reference materials were HotVWs and VWTrends magazines and the How to Keep your volkswagen alive handbook by John Muir.
My dad watched as his son slaved over what can be considered a money trap.
Ever since June, Cop (who was named Beetle Boy Blue then) has had many changes. I removed the aircon blower which was impeding my driving. removed the rear seats. installed one piece windows. installed empi door handles and window crank.
And then my brother and I sanded him down and did a crude washover using spray cans. We started with a black and white scheme. The paint condition lasted for a few weeks and then the stains could not be removed anymore. so we repainted him khaki and flat black.
My girlfriend said the name Beetle Boy Blue is not applicable anymore so she renamed him Cop.
I drove him daily to work and even reached Antipolo, Tagaytay and Bulacan without any problems.
Well except that whenever I hit any road irregularity the noise inside would be unbearable. And If I push him too hard he'd vibrate. I later on realized that if I had been unlucky, I would've been stranded in a far away place without any hope of getting any help because of a damaged framehead.
These were the things I discovered about Cop little by little everday ever since I acquired him. He was giving me the symptoms that he needed some repair and I just ignored it and soldiered on, driving him.
I guess all those prayers to keep me safe while driving Cop helped! haha
