Last year, when she had her gastric bypass, the doc was supposed to also remove her gall bladder.
He did not. He said, her liver was really large. He said, the surgery took longer than he expected. He was also about 2 hours late starting the surgery in the first place!
So, the roomie talked to her regular GP, who sent her to the surgeon she saw before the gastric bypass about the gall bladder and - BAM! - he got her scheduled for the gall bladder.
I kid you NOT. We saw him on Tuesday the 22nd, they have her to go in on Monday the 28th!
I might be a bit absent tomorrow because I'll probably spend some time at the hospital after I get off work, but I still have to deal with those darn cats!
I know my gall bladder was an emergency, but this was really fast considering that her problem before was in Feb of '09.
I have to say, I've felt so much much better since mine got yanked!

If the doctor would have done what he was supposed to do, she wouldn't have to go through two operations! That is fast considering that you had just seen him, but not really when it was supposed to be out anyway.
I had mine taken out also, and was in quite a bit of pain. I was afraid after it was out that I would gain weight, but that has not happened and I am glad to have it out.

Hi Elic
I hope it all went well
You might remember that 3 years ago my Doctor then left me 13 months with it, till I was rushed into hospital, she actually made an appointment to see a Gastric Surgeon who got me in within 2 months to get it removed
I just do not know how Doctors think today I really don't
Let me know how it all went

She did really well. The surgeon wanted her sitting by 6 and walking by 6:30. Well, it was a bit after 6 before she got into the chair and closer to 7 before they took her for the walk - but the nurse said she did real well on her walk.
She bounces back from surgery pretty quick, all that clean living I guess...

my mom had the reverse-they said they found some weird liver things after the gallbladder was taken out.i think it might have been leftover yuck backwashing, but she seems ok now.
hers seemed pretty quick once they made up their mind about it..appearently there was 5 masses of something in it,so i imagine she must also feel better.

oh my, I'm glad they got it and she's better - I kid you not, I have been a LOT better since the gall bladder came out - the roomie seems to be taking it slower, but I guess because I took a couple of weeks off afterward, because of my fibro and stuff that I sprang back once I did go back to work.
Also, my diet was never heavy in greasy things so it wasn't like I had to change my diet much

hers never really was either..we'd have the occasional fried chicken, but that was about it.i was kind of puzzled with all the masses.
they were saying she needs to eat more fruit, but she's as bad as a 4 yr old that doesn't want to eat veggies with that one.

My hubby had his removed when we lived in Texas in Killeen. He was having trouble with it as well and they got him in pretty quickly. He's been doing a lot better since, just like you! I'm glad they got your roomie in so quickly! Hopefully it'll go real smoothly for her.

I had my gall bladder removed in 1979. It was so full of sand and pebbles that they could never get a decent xray of it. The dye could not get into it due to the cement! So they went in on an exploratory. I had one stone lodge in the duct and the bile backed up and turned me yellow! Since then I have had adhesions in the incision (the scar is unreal) and I have to eat regularly or I get digestive problems (I've passed out on the toilet twice) but these are easier to deal with than the pain of passing those stones!
My doc wanted me to have gastric bypass a few years back but when I looked into it, it occurred to me that it would just make me sick and to me that isn't worth it just to lose weight. I can make myself sick without surgery, thank you.

I had passed a stone into my pancreas and had pancreitus, I was one sick ol' lady! I say that having mine out was one of the best things EVER!
We have several people here who've had the surgery. Oreocookie has had a rough time, giftsandbags.com, on the other hand, has done pretty well. The roomie has done well, too.

I just had mine out a month ago. I do know that if your liver is large, or levels in the liver are high, they like to wait. I had to. I had to wait two weeks. If not, they can run into more problems. I wonder why they did not explain things to her. I hope she is doing well.

I think she expected to spring back faster than she has, because I did so well, but I was a LOT sicker before they pulled mine, so it did seem like I was better faster because I was, but mostly because I was over the other problems before they pulled the gall bladder. I was passing stones into my pancreas so I was really sick to start with and it too 3 days in the hospital on major meds to be able to get mine done!

It's nice that you got in so quick. I had a stupid three-day-headache last week that caused me to see a Dr. and he sent me to the hospital for a brain scan.
Woke up 9:30 AM
Called Dr 9:45 AM
Got appt 10:10 AM
In hospital 11:00 AM
In scan 11:30 AM
Got results 1:00 PM
Hme by 1:30.
Not bad, and there were no problems. He said it was just tension.
