Hello Lotters
,
I do remember Filipino being united when ever there's a fight or battle of Manny Pacman, almost the whole nation is watching and crimes are severely reduced. another thing is that most are united in standing against this so-called discrimination or racist remarks from others. with the second sentence by the way is some times also due to our sensitivity much.
But what really intrigue me was during the elections, eight candidates shared different votes from hundreds of thousands and millions of Filipinos. It's interesting though that this is the event where Filipinos were faction-ed with different candidates or political parties.
We can be united or separated in ways that gives different results to the nation and the people. but more is often, the unity? or the Factionalize/divided

Well I still believe that we are united in some ways here but on the other hand there are things that we may get factionalized especially when we talk about politics and many other things related to that. I guess when national interest is at stake we tend to come united also like for example during calamities and other emergencies we can also stand united in helping each other under this circumstances.

Hello Rsa101

Yes, most people unite during calamities and dark edge that happens
. i think if more people were educated then we would still have more division at hand and sometimes i wonder when it will be for us to unite and start doing the best we can to make the country better. have a nice day.

Well I guess we are created to think independently and not think as one whole group. I think if we think like that of the ants or perhaps like the termites or the bees then we can be united. I think that is the beauty of our specie that we are allowed to grow with the differences we have around. Just imagine the life of an ant doing the same chores everyday just to say united with the whole ant kingdom.

I can say we are united whenever our culture is at stake or somehow being the talk of the town. We are divided if our personal choice or preference is being poked at by our fellowmen and or other people.

Yes, that's the real problem right there
. that's the life of living in the Democracy that really hard to compare.i think we have been more divided than united in most scenarios.

in different circumstances, division and unity emerge in the philippine society. your example of pacquaio's fights and its power to unite the whole country, i think it is a shallow and temporary show of unity. there must be an established value or tangible things that have unifying power for all filipinos. sadly, there is none. however, the factions and divisions are not that worrisome either. i could not imagine that filipinos will kill each other because of their differences, although there are conflicts in the country characterized by these differences.

Hello Mensab

I really don't like our people having a temporary unity when it supposed to be permanent for the sake of the people and the country
i think corruption has taken it's toll in our societies. i thought we were smart but probably we lack wisdom that the rest of our best minds are really easily deceived.

theres always been a faction among Filipinos even during the Spanish and American Colonialism. And up to this time, we are still divided. It is evident during the implementation of development projects. Each political party has its own agenda. In effect, this political parties compete against each other which cause in the delay in the delivery of social services to the people.

Isn't this hard, we are still divided, though other nations have divided factions, we are just plain obvious. i think people should have been smarter instead of just going along for the ride. then, they complain about corruption but it is them who voted these people

I find myself chuckling at your very acute observation. Though I will never accuse Pacquiao's fight as an inane reason to be unified and united, I also found it funny that our people cannot seem to be united and unified unless it's a boxing match. It's very interesting on how the country is so serious about a fight broadcasted from abroad but cannot seem to be solid when it comes to politics and nation-building.
I don't know how answer that question but I'd like to offer my opinions. I guess we as a people love to escape, even to the mundane methods. We don't like anything serious because we hate for the worst thing to come. We like to see others recognized in other countries but we never seemed to know what do in our own. We demand change but that change isn't practiced by the masses. We tolerate every level and degree of monstrosity in our midst (corruption, red tape, incompetent officials)but never act upon them. I just we're just too kind and we always play by the ear, even though we don't know what exactly what we're listening to.
I don't know if our diverse culture or our geographical features are any factors to our approach on these things. I guess people would rather watch a boxing match rather than a lengthy debate on policies and programs. It's more exciting even though at the end of the day, the only winner is the boxer and not its audience.
