Since Papa John's donated to our VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), we've been trying to buy at least a slice of pizza from them a month. My husband wanted to buy an entire pizza. So I got a large (12 inch) with half pepperoni and half mushroom/pineapple (I think I'll have onion either instead of mushroom or in addition to it). Anyway, I went in asking for a small and they only have L, x-L and XXL wich are 12, 14, and 16 inches. I told my husband and he said, "They're just being honest. Look at all the places where a small drink is actually a large, a medium drink is actually XL and a large is HUGE." Very true. But at the same time, I'm used to pizza huts personal pan pizzas. When we lived in the city, we used to get those for lunch. The good thing is that this pizza was take out and will go for 2 meals now. So what size and toppings do you have on your pizzas? What size drinks do you get and are they really the size they used to be? I find at ice cream shops, I have to order smaller and smaller sized cones just to get the same size each year. I used to always order a medium, but medium became a large, so I started ordering small and that was the old medium. Now I have to order baby to get a medium. Once in a while I go somewhere with the old sizes and baby is actually a tiny baby cone with a bite or two of ice cream. Shopes should have pictures of sizes now. A few places do, but more should. I don't need to be super-sized!

Wow, seriously, a 12-inch is the smallest??? Well, that is what people want and why america is so out of shape today, everything we eat is "super-sized" I hate super-sizing, but my husband will buy it because it is cheaper per ounce to buy in larger quantities, especially Chinese take out, goodness, that can last me through three meals...

If people make it go for more than one meal, it's a good deal. If they eat it all in one meal, then that is the problem. Even when we go to diners, I have to have 1/2 of it brought home, if I eat it all, I gain weight. Most meals now aren't singles, they're doubles and triples. It's ice cream cones here that have gone nuts. You have to eat that in one sitting and I have to keep ordering smaller ones. There is nothing smaller than a baby cone, so what will I do if that gets too big?

I can't see the baby cones getting too big, so maybe you'll be good where that is concerned..I can't imagine people eating these portions though. One time I made a meal and at this point all I can remember was the macaroni and cheese, but I looked at the boxes and cans to see what a serving was..I was shocked that even I was eating too much..If people would serve themselves using a measuring cup, they may find that even if they don't eat a lot, they may still be eating too much..

True, many diets major in portion control, esp. diabetic ones that allow you to eat almost anything now, the two things are portion control and variety of types of foods. Thanks and take care.

well, I like mushrooms or spinach, but actually what I really want is cauliflower! Cici's only has medium and large, and I want the biggest drink I can get, believe me, I can drink it too, but I do get diet! gosh, ice cream, its been a few years since I've ordered it out, but I always went by the scoop, like Baskin & Robbins... I guess Amy's does do something else, don't remember how they do it tho... But, that's the place I once watched them pound the fixings in to the ice cream, run outside and throw it across the street to someone with a bowl in the other side (5 lanes of street too!) And at night, I would be afraid of it picking up moths!

We usually go to pizza buffets, Pizza Hut or CiCi's. I eat less and less, and hubby says we probably do not really get our money's worth. If my husband and son and I were to go to get pizza we would get two mediums and take half of one home. The ice cream place I go has a standard scoop size and you can get single and doubles. I have noticed that a lot of places no longer have small drinks available. Many times they are just one size with continuous refills.
