Anyone got any good natural remedies for menopausal hot flashes and cold flashes? Not asking for medical advice, just any home remedies or natural fighters you have heard of or that work for you. I am so sick of pills and drugs and of course that is all the doctors want to give me. Half the time they don't work anyway! I did some research and calcium and magnesium taken together said it would help hot flashes. Well I take them every night for the sake of the calcium (mag helps it absorb better) and I admit, I dont' do it reglarly as I hate taking big pills nad I just dont' do it. But since I read that about them helping hot flashes, I took them last night...first night in weeks that i haven't been woke at 3am drenched in sweat! Did it work or just did I have a good night? I don't know but will keep testing it myself. But i also heard something about licorice root and ginkoba etc. Just whatever you would like to comment about...I'd appreciate it. It helps to research soemthing if you know what to research!

I take Calcium and Magnesium, but that was not why. I have found that Magnesium helps reduce headaches. I take Black Cohosh for menopausal symptoms. I also had good results taking cod liver oil at a time when I was having night sweats and hot flashes. Lots of icewater of course is helpful. I like calcium and magnesium for lots of reasons, though and they call it natures sleeping pill.

You buy it anywhere that you buy other supplements. I either get mine at Wal Mart, or I think I most recently got mine at my grocery store cause I had a $2 off coupon and they were buy one get one free. I put the extras in the vegetable crisper til I need them. I also sometimes order supplements through a points site online so I can earn more points. I had a complete hysterectomy ten years ago, and I found that the estrogen replacement tended to give me headaches so after a year and a few months I started taking black cohosh. In Germany they do a lot of studies on supplements and the women there have used it for years.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I can't take estrogen due to a tumor issue so this might be what I need.

What a coincidence. I was just reading about the iodine skin patch test and saw that someone eliminated hot flashes by taking iodine tablets (under a physician's care, of course) -- I had not realized that iodine deficiency contributed to problems other than the thyroid not properly functioning. It is implicated in skin problems, too. What a versatile substance iodine is. It can be found naturally in egg yolks and strawberries. That makes me think of strawberry eggnog... When I was in your shoes I enjoyed sweet potato "milkshakes" as a frequent snack. Yams are supposed to contain something that helps with the symptoms of menopause. I cooked my "yams" in the MW and then pulled the peels off, and blended them with milk and honey and ice cubes. I still think that "shake" is tastier than an ice cream shake. And much healthier.

One of my good friends sees what I eat for breakfast (sauteed tilapia on a bed of spinach with a couple easy over eggs) and says "I'd STARVE if I lived here." Can't please everyone. But if it makes you feel better, I did eat a Krispy Kreme donut last week (first donut in 15 years)

To each her own! Whatever works for your life! I don't care for krispy cream..FAR to sweet and airy....feels like I am just eating sugar! I'd rather have a cake base donut...at least you are biting into SOMETHING beside sugary sweet air!!! Yuck! But then again...make me happy and give me cheese enchilladas or a good pizza and I'm a happy camper too!

Hello friend. I am running 58 now, i started having irregular menses, heavy bleeding when i was just 40, followed by premenopause syndromes, may be it was too early. I had hot flashes, headache, irritation, getting angry, off mood, happy etc easily Doctors advised calcium and some tablets that have multivitamins and minerals, i take herbal powders too. Thanks for sharing Happy posting, cheers. Namastey. Kalyani
