Hello Friends :-)
Actually i am not used to watch news channels more but i love to know about new technology. And just recently i was sawing technology program on some news channels.. They were describing about 3d printers !!!
I really don't know that is 3d printers are common or not but surely they are something new technology for me.
There wasn't more info their.. But whatever i understand is We have to make any design like think about any small statue.. So we have to make 3d model of that statue via some graphic software(may be like photoshop) and we can get that product via 3d printer.
Don't know how.. But i think we have to add powder of raw materials in that 3d printer and that printer will use that raw material for making same statue whatever we make in that graphic software !!
For example think about jewellery.. Suppose we have to make a ring.. Then make a 3d model of that ring in computer and add gold powder as row material in that printer and print out that ring.. You will get that ring as you design in your computer !!
I have also heard that people are using it for making food dishes too.. Then are they adding egg and other things as raw material for making cake..
I really don't know about it.. Hope somebody will explain something more and correct information.. So what you know about it ??

Hi akp100, Too bad I didn't see this earlier.
3D Printers are not cheap. That is why they cannot be commonly used. However, with the development of RepRap, the price is expected to come down.
The 3D printer available on the market are only for printing small objects in plastics. Jewellery industries and Plastic manufacturing Industries used them to print the prototype - thereby called as Rapid Prototyping Machine.
The quality of the printer depend on the quality it can produced.
We just bought a 3D Printer second hand for our manufacturing company. I will post a picture of what we print. We used to get it done by Jewellery designing company who has got machine. Here I attach a picture of what we had printed.
What I am talking about is only Industrial Use 3d Printer. There are some company trying to develop for home use. In fact, there are some available on the market for $600 (US) upwards. I don't know the quality though.
You may want to check out http://www.reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page
There are some company who does 3D printing in METAL even.
I read a few days ago that they are 3D printing a human heart. Not sure if that will be successful or not.

Even i thought that nobody having interest in it..
But great to have here. You have given lots of information about it. Thanks for sharing..
Wow.. That's good that you having one of them in your company. I wish i can see its working somewhere too. I have heard in the news that mostly industrial companies are using it like jewellery, car making companies using it for making handle and other small things, etc . But yes it can available for personal use too but in future..

Glad I could share. We did a lot of research when we were buying it.
I haven't actually seen one working either. I will see it when we receive the printer that we bought. We bought it about a month ago, but we are still trying to sort out import requirements. Indian Customs can be very tricky especially when it comes to second hand machine.
We spent a fortune on prototyping, wax carving from pictures, etc. It makes sense for us to have a machine even if we can't print all of our products. Just being able to print some part will save us time and money.
My dream now is to have the Metal 3D printing as that would really be awesome.
I would like to have a desktop one like the Reprap, just to print some things used around the house.
