it strikes like lightning especially to people who do not know that it is coming. the Philippine government just issued a warning to 19 provinces including my place about the impending tsunami and alarming the people to brace themselves for tsunami warning following major earthquake that hit japan.
this is my first ever experience with a tsunami if ever it reaches land. although i am far from the beach, i have seen the videos of the tsunami in japan a few minutes ago and i see how big the destruction has been. more so, there was no exact news about the fatalities. i have mixed emotions.. i feel excited but of course i am afraid.
am sure prayer brigades have activated to spare our country and citizens from impending disaster.
have anyone here experienced a tsunami?

according to history, Philippines never encounter a tsunami even thou Philippines belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire....
plenty of countries that surrounds Philippines serves as a Blocking Country as a front line when Tsunami is oncoming.....

hello mantis,
i am not sure about that. there was one time in the year 1960's, i was still young then (hehehe!) my father works very near the port. their office is surrounded by warehouses. after the tsunami hit, he said gallons and gallons of paint and plyboards were found in the streets. our land though was not hit terribly because there was an island that covers us from the pacific ocean. but nevertheless it still reached our ports and some parts of the streets.
by the way, i live in the southern part of the philippines.. nearest countries are malaysia, and indonesia.. thereabouts.

as what i expected,
the Tsunami that hit Philippines is only the remaining minimum parts....
and not the true Tsunami Force like what happened in Japan
and in cross ocean countries like what happened if you still remember in year 2004 Tsunami that strikes in INDIA, SRI LANKA, INDONESIA, MYANMAR, and MALAYSIA
even in Tornadoes,
Tornadoes in America is a far more different compare to the Tornadoes found in the Philippines....

I was actually there in Japan when the big earthquake and tsunami happened in March this year. It was really terrifying and it was the first time I experienced something like it. Although, I'm really blessed because there was no tsunami in our area, since our area is not anywhere near the ocean. But still, I witnessed what happened to other people there during that time. Let's just pray that nothing like this would happen again.

Not in my life. My province was also included in the alert but thank God that it did no happen to us here. I saw the devastation it brought to Japan and knowing that we are not that rich like Japan I can just imagine how hard it would be for us to brace for this disaster. I can literally see Japan is held helpless right now what more can we be when this thing strike us.

hi rsa,
thats very true. i wonder how our people would have reacted.
i am very amazed how the japanese did aftermath. they were all so disciplined, you dont hear much complaints and cries although i know it really hurts to lose some loved ones.
i know these people with recover very fast due to their positive attitude, even with the problem of the nuclear power plant.

Hi Ann. I hope that you are safe and far enough away from this wall of water. Thousands probably will not have been. I have had enough of these natural disasters and have stopped looking at them. There have been far too many already over the last six months!

Our family lives hundreds of miles away from the ocean so it is highly unlikely that we will ever experience a tsunami where we live. However, I do have a cousin that lives in Saipan and he is an old hat with experiencing tsunamis. He says that they are nothing to joke about, but he has definitely been lucky that he has made it through them safely. This is true this time as well, I've been in contact with him on facebook.

I haven't experienced nor seen an tsunami with my own eyes and I don't wish to experience even one. What happened in Japan was really devastating. Imagine an 8.9 magnitude of earthquake plus a gigantic tsunami that easily swoop everything in its path. I hope and pray that it won't happen again.

hello elsmarie,
those are mostly provinces that are facing the pacific ocean. but last night the advisory was taken back. i am happy because there was no destruction that came to my country. the people were kind of panicky but nothing untoward happened and they went back to their homes near the sea.

When I was young, I was fascinated by the waves in the beach. As I sit on the shore, I used to imagine the waves enveloping my tiny body, and I knew that I would be helpless if that happens. That is why I do not allow my daughters to go on excursions to the coastlines.
The fiercest waves I had ever witness were those at the Ilocos Region. I really got afraid and I did consider those my tiny tsunamis.
Now, let's pray these tidal waves don't engulf our archipelago.

hi eileen,
i grew up being in the beach almost every weekend with my parents and siblings. it is our way of bonding. our beaches here are always calm and really good for swimming. it only gets choppy when there are low pressure areas and that is not very often. so a tsunami seems very very scary for us even if we have not experienced it yet. the videos in the internet made me really scared too.

Sweety
You scared me, hope you are safe and sound. My city is far from sea, 400 kms away. No chance of tsunami at all..
But at 7pm my time we had sudden strong wind, rain and hail stones fell, this was after several years, may be due to what you have shared..
Thanks for sharing
Cheers.
God bless you, have a nice day ahead.

hi professor,
i thought it would be a worse scenario last night. people from the beaches were bringing their belongings and has been in the streets with children and pets and bags. it was chaotic just looking and it made me panic for a moment. the tsunami was supposed to hit land around 5 or 6pm last night but thank goodness! there was just small waves of tsunami that hit. and it was not destructive.
it is fine now. nothing to worry.
have a very nice weekend.

I haven't experienced it and don't wish to experience it in the future. My American friend asked me if I'm going to be okay here and I told him that I'm gonna be fine and I'm nit scared to die. However, I added that I'm far from the sea and I'm going to be alright.
Lately natural disasters have been striking everywhere. Earthquakes in different parts of the world are frequently occurring. Is the world ending or is it mother nature striking back at us?
I pray though that no such thing shall happen in the Philippines because we are already greatly suffering from economic and political problems. I can't imagine how worse it would be if tsunami would strike us. Let's all pray for that!

hi toni,
it is really scary. we do not pray that it happens to our country and people who believe in prayers can really do something and start praying it doesnt happen.
but just in case it does, people should have already gone to higher grounds. for my part, i am working a few hundred meters away from the beach. and everyone is alert right now.
i'll give you updates later.

haven't experienced and i pray that we won't experience it ever. But this makes us think that we should we always be ready for a big one to come because if it can affect japan which is a well-prepared country, how much more us with our structures which are not tested by previous earthquakes.

hello cebumd,
i have prayed too and am happy the prayers were heard by the Almighty.
the tsunami waves also hit but they were milder and not destructive. the people who live near the beaches have returned back to their homes.
hope that there are no more disasters that will come in the future.
have a nice day.
