We took Roxy to the Vet this morning and according to the Vet there are no Puppies, Roxy is having a Phantom Pregnancy which means she has all the Signs and the Milk but no Puppies
So needles to say that there are no Gissi and Roxy Puppies
The Vet will wait for a week if the Milk dries up by itself if not she will give Roxy some Tablets next week to help dry it up
Roxy is fine, she is herself and in no pain, but we will not try again, as the risk will be the same, so Roxy will be done in May
There is not a lot more I can say apart from sorry for getting all excited and passing it on to all Gissi's Friends and now well there is a big downfall
Yes I cried a bit and I still say we felt movements, but the Vet said that could have been anything really, so now I will not try any more as the sadness is not nice some People might think I am being stupid maybe I am but if you knew me you would understand me
I am glad that Roxy is ok as that is the main thing to me, she is special to me as well and I love her to bits and I would not ever want her to go through this again, it is not fair, I rather do without a Gissi Baby and Gissi and I will eventually find a little Puppy I hope that I can afford and that we will both love but it will have to be a small Dog like a Chihuahua, Yorkie, Maltese or even a little Cross
So everyone I am sorry to disappoint everyone, but no Gissi Babies
Thank you everyone and big Hugs
Have you ever known a Dog with a Phantom Pregnancy ????

DAYUM!!!!
And I just set up a corner of my bedroom with a Goxy bed & Rissi toys!!! All joking aside...I'm REALLY SORRY Gabs!!! I have heard of dogs having false pregnancies, but never known one personally!!! Roxy's owner may need to watch for signs of depression once Roxy realizes there are no puppies. Since she thought she was preggers, she may still miss the puppies she didn't get to have. I read about one dog that chose a cordless phone as her proxy puppy. She even made it nurse!!!

It is so strange I have to say
We are watching her all the time between us
Oh you better find a good home for the Bed and Toys lol just like me lol
Hugs to you

Yes, Gabs, I have heard of this before. I also have heard of the fetus being reabsorbed if something is wrong. The movement you were feeling probably could be gas.

Oh Gaby, I am so sorry that you and Gissi and Roxy won't have any puppies. I know how badly you wanted a puppy of Gissi's. Poor little Roxi, this will be so hard for her with no puppies to show for her "pregnancy". She just will not understand. You or her mom will need to get her a new tiny stuffed animal puppy to love up to. So it won't be so hard on her. Or that is what I would do for her.
I have never had this happen with any of mine but I'm sure it has happened to someone's somewhere as it does happen.
I do know a lady that it happened to and it was so sad. She had wanted a baby.
She had all the signs of being pregnant. For her she understood she wasn't. Poor Roxy, she just won't know. Bless her.
Hugs to you, Gissi, and Roxy and her mom.

Don't worry, Gabs, nobody will judge you for this.
I'm glad that both Roxy and Gissi are OK and I'm sure you will be able to find a small size puppy for adoption.
There are plenty of abandoned puppies and you will give one of those little dogs a chance to a good life.
My previous dog, Nera, had Phantom Pregnancies after each estrus until the age of three, when I castrated her. Just like Roxy, she produced milk and she tried to prepare a place for the puppies. During those days she used to 'adopt' one or two of her toys and she acted like they were her puppies. She licked them all day long, she protected them and she didn't want to be separated by them for too long.

I think I once told you about CeeCee. She belongs to my friend and she goes through phantom pregnancy every Spring. She does all the nesting and stuff. She has a lot of stuffed animals toys and those are her babies. She carries them around and puts them in her nest of blankets. She takes care of them very well. She just wants to be a mommy so much. She has a lot of love to share so she shares her love with her toys. Roxy is not the only one to go through this experience.

Well, my brother's ex kept having false pregnancies, and go into labor and then there'd be no puppies.
So, one day, in the middle of a party, she brought in the "false puppy" she had found. He was actually about a 6 week old orange kitten. Bandit came in and put it down at my brother's feet and looked up with her big, Spaniel eyes. He told her: "You'll have to ask your mother."
So, Bandit picked up the kitten and went to her owner, the ex, and repeated the move. The ex said: "You'll have to ask your father."
Bandit picked up the kitten and brought it back to my brother who told her: "All right, you can keep it, but its your responsibility, you have to take care of it."
At that point Bandit picked up the kitten, took him to her bed and washed him all over.
It was after the "false puppy" that Bandit finally had a litter of her own.

I've never heard of a false pregnancy with animals. I know it is common with humans in wanting a pregnancy so badly that the body will create the symptoms. Surely Roxy did not have the mental processes to want to be with babies. Quite strange I would say. Sorry you are so disappointed but things do happen for the best.

Oh Gabs, I am so very sorry to hear this news. I have not heard
of dogs having this problem, but if humans can I guess they can
too~ Poor Roxy! She won't understand and will be so confused.
I am just glad that she is alright. I know how very upset you
are, but we all love you and Gissi and Roxy so very much! I know
it is a big disappointment for you, but things will work out. I
am here for you if you want to talk, when you are ready. Just
give Roxy and Gissi big hugs and kissys from Auntie Les and
Cousins Star & Luna and know we are love you all so much. Roxy
is the one that will need the "special attention" now. My heart
is breaking for her and all of you.

llamas are famous for this condition, only with them you wait 11 months for a cria,(baby llama). Even experienced Moms will have this, no known reasons. What a disapointment for all of you. But I am glad Roxy is in good health. I did wonder when you said you were breeding Gissi if any of the health problems he has had were able to be passed on. I am sure that the right puppy is on it's way to you, just wait a little. Blessings

Hi Pat
No the Vet did not believe it could transfer to the Puppies, but we will not try again as Roxy and Gissi are more important and no way will we risk Roxy going through this again so in May my Friend is having her done
Like you say one Day there will be a little one that will need me and I will wait for that I have my Gissi and I am happy and grateful for that he is my number 1 and always will be

Ah Gabs, Gissi and Roxie, I am so sorry. I guess its better then her having puppies and them not making it. Its still sad though, we all love you and Gissi and were really looking forward to hearing about the adventures of Gissi's offspring. I have had cats that have had false pregnancies before. Hugs to you and Gissi, Roxie too.

Sorry to hear the news Gabs - we were all geared up for those babies!
We had a poodle years ago that had a phantom pregnancy. She hadn't been mated, but she got all the symptoms - fat tummy, producing milk and making nest in preparation. She would even place her little soft toys near her teats as if she was feeding them! It was upsetting for us to see her go through all that and then have nothing.
The vet told us that some dogs want to have puppies so much, that they can mimmick the symptoms. She (our dog), suffered no ill effects.

Aw, Gabs, I feel so bad for you! I know how excited you were. I was excited and I'm all the way over here across the Atlantic so I can imagine your excitement was even greater than mine was. And, now, I can feel the loss. Yes, it is a loss, almost as bad as a miscarriage. But, I know you'll get over it and love Gissi that much more.
I never had a dog go through phantom pregnancy but we did have a cat go through it. I was totally convinced my husband's cat was pregnant because she had all the signs, too, including weight gain, change in eating habits, swollen teats, the works. I actually thought she was going into labor at one point because she was hiding in our closet (walk-in closet) behind a box and she was straining. Then, she moved to another place, strained with no results, moved again, then again, etc. After a bit, she acted as though nothing was going on. At that point, I had a feeling it was a phantom pregnancy and it turned out that I was right. Probably a good thing, as this cat is MEAN and she would probably have attacked me if she had actually had kittens. She probably would have attacked my husband! She's mean all by herself but, if she was a new mother, geez, I doubt we could have handled her!
Give Gissi a hug for me and tell him I'm so sorry he's not going to be a daddy but at least he'll now remain the center of attention! THAT'S a good thing. LOL

Sorry to hear that. It would be something if the doctor was wrong and she just wasn't far enough to tell. I've never heard of a phantom pregnancy. That is weird.

Aww, that's such a sweet story about Cee Cee. That must be so cute to watch. I hope she is totally content with her pretend babies.
