Keep It Going- But How Often Does It Happen?

We all know how important it is to reply to those who have taken the time to respond to our discussions, but, in my opinion and from reading many of the discussions here, i very rarely find a discussion go beyond the poster of the thread, his or her responses and a reply to those responses. In other words, someone starts a discussion, they receive responses, they reply and that's it. I do understand that many topics really don't warrant an actual ongoing discussion between the poster and the responders, but i've also read posts where i would have liked to see the discussion go further, but it just didn't happen. The only times i do find a lengthy exchange of opinions and comments is among the veterans of Mylot who along with their friends find many ways to continue a discussion and i really enjoy just reading them. so, i'm interested to know, wouldn't you like to see more of these types of discussions here? and isn't that really what a true discussion is all about? a continuous exchange of opinions and comments?

There are only a few who can do that. They can prolong the discussion from their first response. Makes you think how they really are in person.

It happens when it's like that but it could also happen when there's a debate going on or if the topic is interesting. I've been here for quite a long time now and I've also witnessed and have been on stringing discussions. It's fun especially when the discussion is light-hearted. Although it could also get interesting during debates, you can't really avoid the clash of beliefs here because this is a place where people from all around the globe hang out.

I agree, you mostly see these types of discussions are usually among the veterans of Mylot who have been friends with each other for quite awhile.I would just like to see more people prolonging their discussions and responses by adding further comments anytime they feel they can still contribute to it.it;s just not done very often here.

Besides the long discussions i see among friends , you also see on religious debates, even though most of them continue because there's so many disagreements and arguments there, where everyone wants to be right and no one gives up their different points of view or will even go halfway.but, as you mentioned , we have people here from all around the world and we can't expect all agreeing opinions.

Hi jujune Sorry for my delayed response. I have been overwhelmed lately with the burial of my grandma. I have been in many discussions where we keep it going for hours on end. Most new members are not aware of how this actually will allow them to really enjoy the site, because they can actually gain more knowledge of the site and how the flow of things run by participating. I often get sad when I some across discussions where the OP never comments a single time. Although I believe I have helped many to discover how enjoyable the site is if they participate and also have assisted them to learn that it is the best way to earn here, you will find many resistant to being helped. I have helped many and that is why I continue to remain so active. For those who resist I simply wish them well. There are some that actually do not appreciate our entering into other boxes and perhaps getting out of topic, and well those have to simply bare with it because myLot was not intended to be a question/answer site. I am all for continuing to do what we do to make it that much more fun.

Funny you should post this discussion because a member posted one Saturday complaining that she did not understand why members pop into boxes getting off topic to earn. By the time I reached the discussion many were telling her that the members at times do get off topic but it is how some ask questions and further continue to post in effort to continue answering to the questions. So by then, I researched her prior discussion and realized it was my comment box she was referring to, at which time I noticed she had it all wrong because although I started the thread it was completely relevant to her discussion. Another member popped into my box to say that she was impressed with my progress and after viewing my profile information she felt she has to come in and ask how do I do it. Since it was a question directed to me of course I came back to comment. After my comment another member who happen to be new came into the box and also asked a few questions directing questions to me about how the site worked. So naturally having received the alert I responded. So you see by the time 6 days later she came back to her discussion she had nothing to say outside of thank you, then had the audacity to start a discussion about how people go on posting for the sake of earning. Couple things wrong there, not only was she not new, cut clearly has no clue what a discussion entails because how on earth does anyone go on in life being asked questions and have no expectation of replies. So you see some people just do not understand the concept of discussion and while I don't care if someone like that gets upset but when someone asks me questions, regardless of who the OP is I will always respond, lol.. Sadly by the time I saw the discussion others I suppose did like me and reviewed her recent history and noticed that she was completely wrong and while they gently explained in their opinion, she because resistant, rude and mean. Therefore Admin must have seen the flamed discussion and deleted it. So unfortunately some people just want a quick question and answer chat site. What I don't get is these are the same people who complain they do not earn. lol..

Unbelievable!, but it happens so often i wonder where you and others find the patience to constantly have to explain what Mylot is "supposed" to be about since very often you find some people just don't like the answer they receive and become rude in their response and then at a later date, complain they're not earning anything. Getting a little off topic hereJust the other day i received an e-mail notification from someone who left a comment under a response i had posted "3" months ago, i was so happy to see this since this tells me, some people are understanding that it doesn't matter how long ago a discussion was posted,by leaving a comment you not only earn from this but you also bring somethng new to a discussion that may have been forgotten.Just by commenting on my response ,this person opened up a whole new conversation and i think that's just great

Hi Friend:Oh, So sorry to hear about your grandma, my condolences to you and your family. i agree, i've always said how sad it is when people take the time to respond to a discussion and receive no replies from the OP.but, then some will continue to complain they're not earning here, but won't listen to advice as to why. They still continue to believe that all they have to do to earn is post as many discussions possible and that's it. Plus, why would anyone not appreciate us commenting in their boxes? when actually once a discussion is posted,it becomes everyones discussion and i would the think the more others comment, the more enjoyable an ongoing discussion becomes and no one should get upset if others feel the need to add thier comments. I myself may not often comment on an ongoing discussion among friends who have been here for quite a while since i feel i would really have nothing to say, but i do enjoy reading them since a lot of the time, the comments are really funny.

"We all know how important it is to reply to those who have taken the time to respond to our discussions" Sadly not 'all' realise that a discussion is an exchange between two or more people and that to make it into a discussion, rather than just a question with some answers, they should comment and further the topic. If more were engaged in doing that then we would see fewer topics started every day. Yesterday a user even told me that, as my opinion was not the same as theirs, and as it was 'their' discussion I was not welcome there I love it when a chain of comments starts and others join in, though I guess you knew that already Some complain that when a certain bunch of friends start commenting they go 'off topic' but doesn't any offline conversation go off onto other tangents too? I think that they have not understood what myLot is really about and confirmation that those chains are perfectly ok is the fact that they stay put and are not removed by admin Bring on the exchanges! I love taking part in them (when I can be here from home rather than from work) and I love reading them too!

I agree, sometimes going off topic is necessary to clarify a point and can even be fun. It takes time and effort to go back and view those who have responded. Also, maybe members may not be aware that they need to go back under the response tab. At the bottom of that page there are numbers leading to past discussions they've responded to. It isn't automatically brought to the top. You have to go 'hunting' for it.

When I respond (or comment) on an inteesting topic where i think that the OP will come back and comment, I usually leave a tab open even for days. Then it is easy to keep up with what is being said as the conversation moves forward. I agree though that it is not essy for newer users to getthe hang of how things can be found here.

Hi Diana:As far as going "off topic" in any discussion i agree that most,if not all conversations offline do this.I have never sat around a table with friends or family, where the discussion stayed on any one subject, why should it be any different here?As long as we're addressing the initial question or problem asked by the thread starter,no one should have a problem with the exchanges continuing and making the discussion more interesting and enjoyable. I do realize some members will shy away from adding their comments in an exchange between friends, feeling as though it's a "private" conversation and i must admit i have done that myself, but i'm never offended by these discussions and really enjoy reading them. Oh, BTW,i can't believe someone actually told you your weren't "welcome" on their discussion, guess this person doesn't realize that once posted, the discussion belongs to everyone and is not theirs alone. but don't you know you should never disagree with certain people's opinion?shame on you

hi jujnme thats why I keep going back to my discussions maybe two or three months back and answer new responses and find that a lot of my friends have commented on response by others and its so satisfying to see they have kept that discussion alive. the back and forth is what makes it so much fun to see your own discussion grow and thrive more and more. I am blessed with some wonderful mylot friends here.I love to see my friends comment back and forth in my discussion and then I love to comment back with my own ideas. In fact a real discussion wil lgo back andforth over and over.

Hi Hatley and OreoCookie3: Going back and adding further comments on a discussion is,i agree very enjoyable. We can always think of other things to add later on and that is what keeps a discussion alive and interesting.I just wish more members would realize that the continuous interaction of Mylot's members is what makes it a true discussion forum.Yes OreoCookie, getting paid for this is not a bad thing either,
