Last month February 2011 I'm thinking in planning to buy a Laptop, because of many things. I think our personal computer will be broken soon because its too old like its 6yrs old now and the part could be upgraded but its cost is like buying a new one, that's why I would like to buy a laptop. But suddenly only this month one of the managers in the office tutored me on how to use a DSLR, because of that I'm now also considering to buy one too... but those two gadgets are too expensive to buy i hoping and thinking of buying at least one of those. But I need more info. about those two to decide could you help me?

A laptop and DSLR is really two different things and they cannot be compared specs wise. I think you should consider buying the one that would provide you more functionality and satisfaction as of this very moment. If you're a guy who loves taking pictures and you can use it everyday then go for the DSLR but if you're a computer savvy guy and would really be using the computer everyday then I would say go for the laptop. Like you I like those two gadget and I want to buy them in the future as well. I first bought a computer because it prove much useful to me as of this moment compared to a DSLR. If I were reach enough I would have bought the two at the same time but I'm not Anyway since you are also like me trying to earn online I strongly suggest to buy a laptop/computer for now because it can help you in posting everyday here in mylot and in many avenues of earning online.

I think most of those who have already posted would say that you should get the laptop. Just think of what would you use more when you compare the two. You get to use the laptop for work or just browsing the net. With a DSLR (I do think that it's the one you wanted to mention on your title), you can take pictures, take very good pictures I might add and.. what else...? Capture video if your DSLR has that feature? When you also compare expenses, I guess you'd save more with a DSLR since you wouldn't be connected to an electric outlet whenever you use it. You just have to charge the battery and your all set to go when it's fully charged. With a laptop, you not only need to spend on electrical bill, you also need to spend on the internet connection that you would avail from your provider. Then again, it's really up to you in the end to decide. It is indeed quite better if you have both, but at this moment, you can't. Why not try to really have both? I mean, if you really want a DSLR, try to get a second hand. Perhaps you can still have enough left to purchase a laptop? If ever your not too particular about laptops, perhaps a netbook would also be available to your liking? Just to add ideas for you to consider (^_^ )

surely buying both should result expensive so in reality if you want use it a a real computer, more powerful and linked to many functionalities so may be you cna choose laptop on the contrary if you would like a device for phot, multimedia and so on may be the other but in my opinion laptop should result better..

hi there arvin, You should buy the one that you can use everyday and I would choose to buy a laptop. I love SLR too. I am planning to buy Canon DSLR probably by next year. I got my laptop a year ago and I completely happy about it because I was having a hard time using my old notebook. DSLR are way too expensive and if you are going to buy one make sure that it is top of the line like those from Canon or Nikon. Lenses and other accessories could cost even you more.

Welcome to mylot Well it depends upon why you need the laptop or the camera LAPTOP and pc's have become things of daily use like tooth brush, if you do online work than go for the laptop. if you are a photograper or enjoy taking snaps go for camera.. Thanks for sharing Cheers. HAVE A NICE SUNDAY. God Bless. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

hi arvin! your choice should depend on how essential the gadget would be to you. if you are not much into photography and was just lured to it by your officemate, i would probably advise you to delay your purchase of SLR. SLR is more of just a "fad" for some. everybody is going "gaga" over getting an SLR but some people don't have much use on them. as for me, i won't buy it if i'm not really a hobbyist which is really really inclined in photography. perhaps i'd buy it if i know that a have a future in photography and if i'd be able to put it into good use (perhaps earn money from it?). if you intend to use the SLR to just document your everyday life, i'd say you just go for the compact point and shoot 'coz you get to bring it everywhere. SLR is way too heavy and bulky and it might deter you to bring it always. it's way too pricey to be bought and not used eventually. go with what is practical for now. If i were you, i'd go with the essential laptop (you'll need it anyway if you get yourself an SLR). after sometime, if you get to save up, then you could go ahead with buying the SLR. we'll that's just for me. :)

I got a fully loaded laptop on ebay, and so far it seems to be in great shape it looks nearly new and its pretty lightweight its a IBM-t60 but as I said it looks and works great and I paid under $200 dollars maybe you could get a good deal on ebay too, for the brand or searching for.
