What's the difference between top news, most recent, and status updates?

And how/why do people post to one, two or all three? Sometimes I see a post on more than one of these, and sometimes something I post ends up on more than one, and I can't figure out how that works. is any one better than the others, and why are there different categories, anyway?

Top news is the most important or interesting stories going on in the country at that time. Most recent is just whatever is going on right now when they broadcasted. And a status update is where ongoing stories set right at the time of the broad cast. Every channel seems to be different in the terminology they use too.

But I don't get news on facebook, only posts from friends (?)

Facebook doesn't have much news on it unless people put it on.

But that's my question--what is "top news" on facebook and who puts it there?
