I bot a DVD Writer in 2007 oct, its Samsung Super write master 20X for my desktop. I never wrote even a single DVD for almost a year (because it never need to write one) But after almost a year, i inserted a Empty Sony R-DVD to write some imp data using NERO 8. Its process went smooth till 51% in just 5-8min and after that even for an hour it was still at 51% and the process did not continue. I aborted and threw that disc into bin and inserted an another empty disc (felt that something might be wrong with the previous disc), but it was the same 51% halt with the 2nd one too. I even tried Samsung discs and even a local made Dvd disc and the results wer same. Because of this i lost almost 8 DVD discs. Now i am just able to Read discs with that and even being bot a writer i never wrote a Single disc. OK let it go and i assumed it might be the problem with the Samsung Writer or even my desktop PC. I was given a HP Compaq 6710b Laptop in 2008 jan by my office. It had a Toshiba Writer and it created some strange problems and stopped writing disc first and then Reading too. It became useless. But then my laptop got corrupted and needed to reinstall Vista in my laptop. In order to insert vista booting disc, i needed a ROM and so i had to buy a new Writer for my laptop, its Sony Optiarc DVD-RW AD-7580A ATA. But happily i wrote more than 10 good Sony DVDs with it. But some days ago i met with the same strange problem as that of the problem i met with Samsung Super write master 20X 3 years ago. The thing was, it wrote data till 93% and after that no more progress. I mean its a complete halt after 93%. Now its 10 DVDs i lost due this Unknown problem. :( Really Strange :( Wat the hell this could be??? Conditions- I never use Bad, corrupted, Damaged, Scratched Disc. (only use them on my LG Dvd reader on desktop) I always write disc at half the max speed. I never write more than a disc continuesly. (Just 1 or max 2 disc a month, it depends upon requirement, sometimes 1 disc in 3months too) I dont hav any virus in my laptop or the desktop (upto 99%) I used registry cleaner and even the registry changing stuffs, no use. Same results on both my P4 desktop as well as Core 2 duo laptop. Any techie guy there who can help me... Please HELP!!!!

It's more hardware issue than the software.. it looks like.. Then too for a trial you do one thing.. use other DVD writing software like PowerISO or Iso buster.. if it fails too it must be hardware issue. So many time it happens that your DVD writer has some issue with lens or something.. even I am not able to write/read any DVD in my laptop with the same issue..

Hmm... Oh Man, I never wrote even a single disc and moreover i never inserted and read a Scratched or damaged disc into that PC Samsung writer.. Will this lens problem happen even if u use clean discs?? Amazing.... Samsung was good.. Now worst.. but atleast good than Sony.. I have 3 DVD ROMS in my Pc currently.. First i bot the Sony writer. It worked for 7 months fine and after that nothing was even readable with that. Then Repaired it as it was in warranty period. After 6 months, i went dummy again.. Then i bot a LG reader (My mistake, i would a bot a LG writer). Its the best till yet, i hav even inserted damaged discs a lot of times and it works fine till date. Then since i needed a Writer, i went to buy a LG writer, but there was no stock of LG writer for long time as said by the stores and So was forced to buy the Samsung. Before these 3 DVD ROMS i had 2 Samsung CD ROMS and they worked the best but the only problem was the trey problem. Since their lens are good, i went for Samsung, But now this Samsung is worst of all... Not only trey problem, it has lens thing too... My Rating form my experience would be 1. LG - best (i think u can even insert chapatis and pizzas) 2. Toshiba 3. Samsung 4. Sony - Worst

Hi, how much size do u write to the disk? Have u scaned ur system for any virus? The best think to do is to reinstall nero. And then try, it should work.

I varies but always above 4gb. I might be 4.10gb or even 4.26gb and sometimes the maximum 4.36gb. Y asking this? U write just 2gb or 3gb on a 4.7gb disc?? Common sense dude.. 4gb is meant for that... I hav checked for virus on both the systems using different Antivirus softwares including the genuine Microsoft Online antivirus.. I AM NOT INFECTED in the answer.. I have tried to reinstall Nero and even used different versions.. I even tried and direct 'Burn to disc' option from Windows.. All Failed.... So any other ideas...? And Please dont ask me questions becoz i did that... Answers.. I need Answers, ideas and help....

Good dvd burner is good investment to archive data - Bad dvd burner spoilt data
Maybe the data burn is corrupted or the dvd/vcd medium is spoil or your burner is spoilt.Sometime your window maybe having some problems causing the data transffered to be spoilt hence burning is not completed.Try burning the in another pc, but trasferring the data in portable hard disk.If can , then it is your pc , burner fault. samsung burner personally i think is not a good burner get liteon or other brand is better.
