Hiya myLotters!
PLDT or the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company announced recently the PLDT-Smart-Sun Cellular Merger.
http://www.techpinas.com/2011/03/sun-cellular-smart-pldt-merger-details.html
It can be recalled that PLDT, as the top telecommunication company in the Philippines, started this when the merged for the first time with Smart Communications years ago, together with Talk N Text. Followed by the Red Mobile.
Now comes the Sun Cellular.
With this development, the Philippines left with two giant mobile providers, Smart and Globe.
So what will happen to Sun Cellular subscribers? What will they expect to happen with their all-time favorite "unlimited" text and call?
Are you afraid with what could be the outcome of this kind of merger, that could possibly have an impact with your subscription?
Does telecommunication merger of two or more companies also happens in other countries?

hi neil!
I think I have already seen this news somewhere but I just didn't give attention since I'm not a Sun's subscriber. Anyway, if that's so I think it will have its pros and cons as always. Maybe it will give better signal for Sun in some areas, i just hope that they will keep the unlimited promos of Sun coz its been a great help for people around.
Merging of companies usually happens, coz it makes a company stronger and saves some falling companies, it happens with banks too.

Hi ckyera. That's one thing I want to learn but we will see in the next few days what will be the outcome of this merger. I know and I am very familiar with the bank mergers, like what happened with Far East, PCIBank and BPI. I think Prudential Bank was also one of the banks that BPI captured?

@ neil,
BDO as the biggest and fastest bank that captures small bank...the latest bank that merged with BDO is GE bank and Robinson's.
I still stick to METROBANK

Well merger does happen in companies in other countries as well.
I mean if a giant company can't beat a fellow competitor or wants to get the market of a competitor, the option is to buy them. Look at Jollibee corporation, they bought Chowking, Greenwich, Red Ribbon and Mang Inasal.
Well Sun Cellular is known for its unlimited services, I guess we'll just have to wait for developments. I myself is a sun subscriber only that I use post-paid.

I never thought about the Jollibee mergers.
But I see how the banking industry goes for years.
Some how, there is no great impact with the account holders.
But with this recent development with the telecommunication providers,
People might even ask what will happen with their subscription.
Well, I just hope we are not going to be affected much.
I too is a postpaid Sun subscriber.

I am glad Jollibee Corporation is outsandingly growing, it is indeed founded by a filipino now it has it's own shareholders and different branches nationwide and some in other countries. I have only known they bought green which and Mang Inasal, i had no idea they also bought Chowking and Red Ribbon
. No wonder menu's there are a bit more expensive now. it's a good thing to keep a business flowing.

Hello Neildc
,
It's really sad that SUN CELLULAR didn't go too well, before it was a hit when they started showcasing their sims with unlimited calls and text. I remember when I was in college, my friends would talked from the room and corridors using the unlimited calls which was really popular among SUN cellular users. too bad they didn't grow and now PLDT seems to be taking over the company, but good.

Hiya buddy!
On the contrary, I don't think Sun Cellular didn't go too well.
In fact, as I guess, PLDT is just a little afraid of the features of Sun.
Or they think Sun has a good or even better facilities,
That they decided to buy it or merge with it.
One of their newest offering which I think will be a threat to them,
Is their nationwide broadband.

I didn't know about the merging but I hope it wouldn't have a bad result or disadvantage whenever it happens. Or I hope there could be an advantage for Sun since it has always been a low signal.

do you remember when sun was at its infancy stage, the globe and smart companies were angry at them because of the unlimited offers sun had? Sun was the first compnay to offer call and text unlimited in very cheap prices. I am once a smart prepaid subscriber and i did not like their service because my load was taken by the company eventhough i have not used it yet. I just hope smart wont affect the good service of sun cellular.

That is one thing I am afraid to happen with Sun Cellular.
I even tried the other providers.
I had been with Globe and Smart.
But when Sun came in, I switched to Sun,
Because I find their offers better than the two.
And the disappearance of our load, which they cannot explain clearly.

so long....missed yah dear amiga
