I have been on morphine now for a week, along with other pills.Well, i was ok on all the other pills and only felt sick, but not actually been sick until i took morphine along with stronger anti biotics. On Monday i was really sick and could not pin point if it was due to morphine or the antibiotics, what with high white cells i thought i would chat to the dr to find out what todo.I halved the strength of the mophine in take and left it 24 hours before putting it back up to full strength, im fine now.The only other thing was that my son was sent home from school this week being sick, so after chatting to the dr etc perhaps i had a sickness bug.

My husband had to take morphine at the end when he was dying of als. It was not a big dose as he was not in great pain, he just felt a little discomfort. But the doctor just gave him a small dose to keep the edge off just in case. If you can, you did the right thing by halving the dosage. Sometimes doctors do not know how much your system to tolerate.
By the way, I have a sister-in-law who is manic depressive and it took years for them to get the right dosage for her condition.

It seems like your pain is unbearable at the moment. Most of the time, morphine won't be used unless it's the last resort to stop the pain. I'm thinking if u should do something about your condition, or go for surgery, get rid of the problem, starting from the root of it, won't it be better that way? I thought your son is in a new school now, with better trained teachers?

Hi jugsjugs, I don't like to use Morphine as a painkiller and would use it only as a last resort. I was taking it for eight days when I was hospitalized a couple of weeks ago, but it was causing me to feel sick in other ways, so I refused to take it anymore. Blessings.

Hi jugs....Before and just after my hip replacements I had to take the Morphine Sulfate every twelve hours. It was somewhat effective for my pain relief but I was glad when I didn't need it any longer. It spaced me out too badly and I still had some pain but didn't care.
The combination of the MS and the strong antibiotic is probably what made you sicker. Either one alone can induce nausea and vomiting so I'm not surprised that the combination produced the ill effects. Happy that you're feeling better now.

Oh wow morphine for me would be way too strong. I had it once while in the hospital and could not stop the vomiting. Maybe jugs the combination made you get the nausea. Have you been eating, because not eating would cause the nausea because the pills are too strong.
It could have been a bug too, I hear so many people, even here too that have the flu bug. I see you are better now and hope you fully recover.

Morphine is a great pain killer. I only took it once in my life and that was when I broke my radius and ulna. However, they waited a long time before giving it to me at the bad hospital I went to. So while they were moving my arm for x-rays I was in a lot of pain. The first thing they should have done was give me the IV and morphine. At the very least the nurse who put my IV in was really good at it and got my vein the first try. She did pick a strange location for it (my inner left wrist). When I went home they just gave me Tylenol with codeine.

Sadly, I am one of those people who is actually immune to Morphine. My doctors gave to me one time, and my body started fighting off it's effect in a matter of minutes. It really sucked. If I ever come down with something serious, I will probably need something insanely strong, because Vicodin and Morphine don't work on me.

ON morphine for a week? That's quite serious to me! From what i know, morphine is usually given to patients in serious pain, and they are those dying patients, so it's all right to inject morphine for them. BUt in your case, whjy would they choose morphine for u? I dun understand that. It's not going to do u any good at all

I think you did too. I get alittle sick like that from time to time. I think it is from my teeth. They are in very bad condition and I think the one is abcessed and it ooses(sorry)drains into my stomache and makes me sick. Wish I could get them extracted and some dentures put in.

I am glad you are feeling better now..it could have been a bug. Morphine is really strong and it could have upset your tummy a bit. I will tell you though that I have taken antibiotics before and become almost deathly ill...terrible. When I was younger..I missed a dose and took two at once..of the antibiotics...you talk about being sorry. I was soooo sick! I learned real quick that making up doses is not a very smart thing to do..lol.

Be very careful taking morphine as a pain killer. My brother was given that for three months straight at a local hospital because he had severe pneumonia. After the three months he was released with no step down program or anything. He was very addicted to it and roamed around looking for pain pills to help feed his addiction for quite sometime. It wasn't long before he turned to heroin which eventually killed him. I'm not saying that you will end up a heroin user because of your morphine pills. I am warning you to be very careful and ask your doctor about a weaning off process when when he decides you no longer need them.

When I was younger I was on pain medication all the time because of the fact that I have TMJ and it was causing me to have debilitating pain. I could take almost all of the pain medications like candy and they didn't make me sick to my stomach like they do most people and they also didn't make me drowsy. I've only had morphine once in my life and it did do those things to me that the other pain medications didn't. You are right to talk to your doctor when you are experiencing unpleasant side effects from a medication.

So something I learned about morphine from personal experience. When taken on it's own it can upset your stomach. Are you taking an anti-nausea with it? If you take an anti-nausea with it it will get rid of the nausea. I had morphine in the past and had no problems with it. I had found out it was because they were giving me an anti-nausea along with it called phenergan. So I did a research study bunion removal surgery on my foot and they gave me morphine. I vomited non stop. I wasn't getting the phenergan with it. I'd talk to your doctor about it if you aren't getting an anti-nausea. That way you can have the strong painkiller without the stomach grief.

you might try nibbling on bread or something.my dad had the morphine/anti-biotic combo with the cancer treatment, and he said after awhile it seemed to irritate his stomach if he didn't eat enough with it.

My stomach can handle the morphine but my nerves cannot. I was not always a good girl back in my high school days and I did my share of experimenting. Well some of that stuff never leaves your body and when you later take morphine it can make you not only jumpy but down right paranoid. At least that was what they told me in the hospital about 7 years ago when they put me on a morphine drip and I was so jumpy a nurse cam in the room and I jumped out of bed, ripped out my I.V.s and ran away! I will never go back on that. Other pain meds will be needed if ever I am to need the like again.

I don't know why you are on morphine and those strong antibiotics. As i don't know your past medical history...So i have no idea how to answer your discussion. what is your chronic pain all about anyway?
maybe, you should go to the doctor/specialist to question that.
