My husbands friend had a 10ft trampoline stolen out of their garden, along with a old broken down washing machine, as well as a dryer, yet noone saw anything other than a big white van.The woman had put the dryer and the washing machine outside to be collected from the council this week, she knows it was not the council that took them as they do not work on weekends. When she woke up this morning to see no trampoline for her children she was not happy.

How sad that people find it necessary to take what does not belong to them. Shame that no one sees anything. Betcha if something juicy was going on they would give full details. lol
My home I had up for sale was broken in twice in a span of 1 week. Washer, stove and a stereo system were stolen out the front door and no one saw a thing. Funny how I use to come in and out of my house and the entire neighborhood knew exactly when and what I was wearing.

That is quite a point that you make HWG. I think it is the same here. Except I have only ever had one thing stolen, take that back, I have had fruits and veggies stolen. Someone even picked one of my pumpkins and smashed it last year. My great niece lived with me for awhile. Her mom got her a scooter. She left it laying out by the sidewalk and someone took it. Nothing else ever.

I think that people that take others things, should have a few of their things taken, perhaps then they would know how it feels.I am angry to think that they took a childs toy.No matter what size or price a thing costs there are people that will take it no matter what.I think that it is strange that noone heard or saw anything as well.

In my new neighborhood there are so many children toys left outside and no one lifts them at all. I can't help but wonder how people easily lift and take what is not theirs, I would be shaking in my boots just with the thought of taking what is not mine. Guess some people can do so easily.
Funny too GG I had this neighbor who it did not matter what time I cam and went and he without a hitch watched me come and go. He is retired with lots of free time on his hands. Sure enough I came and went and I could see him peaking through the blinds.
Oddly this happened to me and he said he did not hear a thing. Makes me wonder. Oh I forgot to mention my huge air conditioning unit outside the house was stripped to the bare bone too and he did not hear a thing, hmm I at least hope whom ever took my things are enjoying them. *sad*

I have seen old white goods mysteriously collected by someone other than the council. The house next door to us was sold recently (the owner went into a home) and the 'white goods' were put outside, ostensibly to be collected by the council. Within an hour an unmarked white van pulled up and in less time than I would have thought possible the items had disappeared (I watched the operation from my window).
It is a good idea to make sure that a house looks occupied and that any back entrances are closed and secured. These people work fast and don't miss a trick. They are also total experts in removing large or heavy objects of value. They are, of course, well known to the police but, unless there is some good, solid proof, they cannot be touched ... and they know it!

Like you say, you have to have some proof that certain people have taken these things, but she only seems to think that the people that are travelers that are down the road from hers have taken them. Its is angry to think they have taken her childrens trampoline. We have people that ask if we have any metal we want to get rid of, they are also travelers, also if they see a metal bed outside or white goods they ask if we want to get rid of it, rather than just taking it.

My mom said that people would steal Jesus Off the cross! I'm so sorry about the trampoline. Hopefully the kids can find something else to do.

Man, that stuff there, gets on my nerves. We have had stuff stolen from us too and it is not a very pleasant feeling. People need to get out there and work for things if they want it, just like everyone else does and stop stealing from other people.

Here in my community one way to get rid of something that we don't have further use for is to leave it at the curb and it will be picked up by unknown passersby. What seems to be most unlikely to be taken will be gone within a few hours. People are funny in what they will take.
How someone got away with a large trampoline like that is puzzling. It's not like it can be deflated and stored. Wonder how they got it into a van?

Even with a large transit van they would have had to dismantle it and someone would have heard them do that.I have a trampoline and they are really heavy, that is without putting the dryer and the washing machine in the van as well.I would be mad if someone took mine.We put things on the curb here as well if there are things we are wanting took.

About 20 years ago my Granddad drove past his son's house & saw him & a couple of friend taking his TV out & putting it on a truck. Gramps thought my Uncle was taking it to the repair shop so he honked the horn & waived. They waived back. Later that afternoon, my Uncle stopped by Gramps & ask him if he had seen anything unusual at his house earlier. Gramps said "yes son, you took off work awfully early today. When you getting your TV back???" Of course my uncle went berserk!!! My Gramps couldn't ID the thieves as they looked like my Uncle & a couple of his friends. Needless to say, my Uncle NEVER got his TV back. After that, if Gramps saw something strange going on, he'd stop & pull up in the driveway to make sure it was my Uncle. I couldn't get it through to Gramps that if it happened to be the thieves again, they might shoot him after he got a good look!!!

Goodness! Such a big thing!!! And stolen?
We live in an apartment complex with security guards. Though the following didn't happen at our place, it took place in quite a few apartments in the area we stay in. Most of us keep our shoe racks outside our door (thanks to the Indian custom of not wearing footwear inside the home and also not to bring in dirt/dust/mud inside). Thieves would get into the apartment (no idea when) and steal the expensive shoes!! This despite having round-the-clock security!

That is pretty astounding. I had a trampoline and they are not easy to set up and take down and load, etc. Must have been eying it for awhile and just took the washer and dryer for a bonus.

I often wonder how people take things so easy. In our case we had to remove the back door to get the washer and stove into the house. I have no clue how easily they took the mine right out the front door when even the 3 strong men initially brought them in.
I was trying to visualize someone taking a trampoline so easily and for the life of me can't figure it out. Maybe they are professionals.

We sold our trampoline to the family across the street and that was even a pain, we tried rolling it on its side. Reminds me of cattle rustling days in the old west, only now it is everything. If they are the same in the UK, they probably picked it all up to sell as scrap metal

It really amazes me how people can steal such large items, and not be seen. It was one thing to get rid of the washer and dryer, but to lose something one did not intend to throw away is unforgivable!

a lot of times nowadays,it's not even worth putting anything in your yard anymore, unless you chain it or concrete it down.
we had a beat up old snow shovel with a duct taped handle stole off our porch one year.i was going to replace it anyway, but i was just amazed somebody'd steal that ratty old thing.just goes to show it doesn't take much.

lol =D Maybe the trampoline is for the pincher's children too?? haha =D Because i dun think they are able to sell that for a good price, and it's not easy to steal it away, when it's bulky, not easy to fit in a car or van.. lol =D I guess with the temptations out there, it's hard for pinchers to resist them when they might be in need of it too.. haha

Sometimes the thing that people steal from other people really don't make any sense at all. With that said, I actually can sort of understand why these things were taken from this family's yard. All three of the items that you've mentioned are made from metal and the price that will be paid for scrap metal right now is very high and for that reason people will steal these kinds of things so that they can get a little bit of money for themselves.
Last summer one of our neighbors was foreclosed and his possessions were placed on the curb. The first things that were taken from the pile of his things were his appliances because people were going to take them to scrap.

i dont blame her. i wouldnt mind about the washing mashine or dryer as it would be going anyway but to have a trampoline stolen then thats another matter. people just dont think about kids and how they would feel when they see their trampoline gone.

The problem that we are having here, on this small Island, is that without a re-cycling for large items...YOU ARE BEING LEFT with UNWANTED goods...in the dark of the night, they deposit items of all kinds in & on your driveway and property! I have 3 acres with roads on two sides...and this is about the time of year that I find "nightly deposits" of some-one's unwanted goodies...and am left with the task of removing them from the property & Island. DANG! (it's expensive)! @celticeagle (189819)

I bet! What a thing to wake up to. SOme people just like the thrill of it all and the object is of not importance. The thrill of it all!! I had my car broken into and all they took was my rear view mirror. They broke the lock on my car and only took the mirror! I was totally surprised.

I don“t know why people steals. maybe in the case of the washing and dryesr machines, the person, just thought your friend had discarded, and took them, bad done of course, they must have had to ask first if they could take them. But, the trampoline has no excuse, I think that in the mind of any thief, there is the inner desire to hurt someone else.

It must be a terrible feeling to see your kids toys gone. We have lost 4 wheelers, ski-doos, pressure washer, air compressor to mane a few. Do we need to chain the bar b que to the deck???? This is a crazy world.

WHen one is desperate, they tend to pinch whatever they see, even it's of no use to them, they can either sell it for money, or give it somewhere. All they want is to wipe out whatever is there, to make them feel better. I've seen many instances like this too, and it's their mindset. There are many times i seen people pinching away with big items, yet leaving valuable things behind untouched.

A trampoline??? That is one brave crook. That washer and dryer would have taken some time to get too. I wonder how they got that trampoline out of there! That's crazy!
