A $1 Billion Campaign for US President?

It is speculated that Prs. Obama will spend around $1 Billion on his re-election campaign.
ONE BILLION DOLLARS!
Considering he declared the beginning of his re-election bid in Apr. 2011 (and assuming he gets the Democratic Party nomination), that comes to $50 Million per MONTH! For a job that pays (including pension and benefits for life), $17.6 Million. Probably twice that when you figure the standard of living enjoyed by a president.
Ok, so around $35 Million per year (average) for life!
If the speculation is true, he'll spend more every month than the entire lifetime prize behind door number 2!
But as ridiculous as that is! That's not my point here.
My point is...
I can't help but wonder how embarrassing it would be to have to break all records in money wasted on a campaign.. just to get out a message that should be pretty clear to the world by now.
He's spent 2 years BEING PRESIDENT. What can he tell us about his plans (if re-elected) that his actions of the last two years don't make plain as day?
The left teaches us to hate anyone with a "golden parachute"... My friends, this parachute puts any CEO pay and bennies to shame!
Why would anyone put up with this?
Why would anyone shrug that off and figure it's due him?
How can anyone who complains, "just think how that money could help the (place your victim of choice here)" even sleep knowing that
$1 BILLION
Will be spent by Prs. Obama, just to try to keep a job that is HIS TO LOSE?

I fear that the election is already bought and paid for.
Consider this if you're inclined to vote for Trump just because he can afford to beat Obama. Perhaps Obama has considered that too. Perhaps he knows the Tea Party and conservatives are on to him big time and can maybe rally enough votes against him? Perhaps he's aware a big issue with the conservatives is his lack of a BC? How better to distract them than by giving greedy Mr. Trump a bit of that billion to distract us? I can't help but wonder at Trump's sudden interest in the Birth Certificate. Why now? We need to quit thinking money=character and start looking for a viable candidate that believes in our Constitutional Republic and focus our attention there. Or the election IS bought and paid for.

Kenzie, I had to do an article on Trump for a political site and it seems that he didn't think much about "choice" or know much about it. For instance, he said when asked that he was for partial birth abortion but he didn't know what it was, just thought it was a form of birth control. Once he learned what it was he was horrified at the barbarity of it and at doctors that would actually perform it. Now he's mainly pro-life. At least that's how the sources I researched explained it.

I found it fascinating that Trump was suddenly all pro-life. Wonder why he never mentioned that before?

dragon, I'd love to read what you put together. I'm just real skeptical about Mr. Trump, but if you have some info on his eligability I'd love to see it. PM me and I'll send you my email.

It shows how determined it is for him to remain president. It is not about him being greedy and does not want to use the money to help others, it is about him wanting him to make sure that all the other candidates run out of money. And once he becomes president for a second time (unless the voters who voted for him wake up and see that he is not the best), he will go back to his true intentions of big government, tax those who use more initiative, favorism of those whom he considers victims, help the Un turn the States into a third rate nation, etc.

I hope so. I hope you get him out. I am Canadian and I watch the news and see what is really going on, how Obama is trying to make America like Europe where everyone feels they are entitled and changing America to a place where the government has most of the businesses and most of the private businesses disappear.

Yeah, that's the scary thing. Making sure everyone knows going into this that he's going to spend that much will probably discourage some from even trying and he knows that.
What it means is that people who have never contributed to campaigns are going to have to do so now to make sure he doesn't get back in. Only 28% of Americans want anything to do with him right now. We can win.

susenseful...I love it when you respond as a Canadian!
We can't get a huge chunk of Americans to see the danger, and here you are observing from a distance...and hit the nail on the head!

His donors include Labor Unions (not necessarily the rank and file), Trial Lawyers, Wall Street Last time around he got more from Wall Street than Senator McCann). Don't forget George Sores and Jeffrey Immelt (My Company made billions and paid no taxes)
Does this help you see that he and the Democrat Party is the party for the little guy.

Why does he need to spend even 1/1000th of that?
One: He has the world's biggest megaphone as POTUS. It has been obvious since his acceptance speech in 2008 that he was running for reelection. Say what you will about the man, like him or could do without him, but most of his presidency to date has been a reelection campaign.
Two: He doesn't need to buy--or at least buy as many--television spots and all that. The majority of news outfits in America--and the rest of the world for that matter--will gladly carry Obama's water and campaign for the man.
I'm not trying to bust media's chops here. It is what it is. MSNBC and CNN and ABC and CBS and PBS and the New York Times and a hundred other print publications and NPR will all unequivocally rally for Obama to win in 2012. They will present glowing stories, skew statistics, make excuses, and those in charge of the networks will line up to voluntarily air commercial spots.
It's simply the truth.
He simply doesn't need to waste people's money to run for reelection.
I'm only into politics since our country started to fall apart a few years ago (then I found out it's been a long, long time coming) so I'm not sure how a President gets to spend for reelection.
He can't spend tax dollars for this, right? I hope not.
If he can raise a billion dollars, however, I want to understand why these people donating $1,000,000,000 to help Obama retain his seat cannot also donate money to fund their favorite organization of all time, PP.
A billion would keep that place going for over a decade. But that's another debate...

He spends tax dollars every time he travels anywhere - whether it's for campaigning or vacationing, playing golf or flying to NYC to see a play with Michelle. We pay and pay big.

I think it is crazy that President Obama will spend at least a billion dollars on his campaign! He will have to work hard to get the democratic bid! He has to convince people he will do what he promises and that things have gottan better since he took office! Obama has along road ahead of him and he seems to confidnece about this! There are people out there who will beleive his message and help pay for his campaign! Not good!

It is very disturbing how much money we waste on elections. But it is inevitable with the current political and media system we have.
Instead of us fighting to control and plunder everyone else through the political system, we would be much better off where the only function of government would be defending our rights and the market would be left free so that we could peacefully produce and consume without interference by third parties. I can hardly imagine the immense prosperity this would result in...
