Fallout, would you be prepared?

I remember when I was in grade school; we would have these nuclear exercises called “duck and cover.” Looking back it seems silly. How could ducking and covering your head save you from a nuclear blast or radioactive fallout? Today we face a greater threat of nuclear fallout with so many nuclear reactors operating worldwide. What is our government thinking? Why won’t the government Issue measures that would help it’s citizens?
If there was, a disaster such as Japan is facing. What would you do if a nuclear reactor melted down in your area? How would you react to the crisis? Would you use duct tape and aluminum foil to protect your family or yourself? I wonder why, there are no nuclear safety kits, that everyone should have or be aware of just in case you would need a nuclear safety kit. I’m starting to see why the government has these underground bunkers. Just for something like Japan is facing.
