Tips on raising funds for a worthy cause

In the last year i became more aware and more interested in protecting the Earth. I wasn't indifferent before, but i am more passionate about it now.
I am sure that most countries have a system where you can redirect a percentage of your taxes toward a charity of your choice (it's 2% in Romania for example) and i redirected from what little i earned toward World Wildlife Fund. I was really sad to hear they only raised in 2010 the equivalent of at best 200 people (the population of Romania is about 22-23 millions) for their organization seeing how their job in protecting different species is really important.
Being active in care2.com, an ecological comunity where you can perform various actions that earn you "butterfly points" that you can use to donate for free for specific actions. I mentioned this because i noticed most of the people first try to help other people and only after may consider helping animals and plants :)
But helping protect the land, the plants, trees and animals should be of higher priority if you ask me and so i started donating in one way or the other as well (bought some trees locally which i even help plant, and some internationally via TreeNation, sent a small contribution to World Land Trust and made a more consistent donation (75$) to WWF US by adopting a trio of cubs for Easter for my girlfriend and adding a little extra to maximize the benefits.
So now to get to the point - i am thinking of raising funds and i am asking for ADVICE ONLY from mylot members, as it would be against the guidelines to request donations, on HOW or WHAT are the BEST solution i should consider for creating a raising fund even offline or online.
I will appreciate any and every insight and tips on this topic as it would help me a lot.
[b]I AM NOT REQUESTING DONATIONS FROM MYLOT MEMBERS AND THE SITES PRESENTED HERE ARE NOT MONEY MAKING FOR ME IN ANY WAY, SO THINK TWICE BEFORE REPORTING A PERFECTLY GOOD DISCUSSION

Hi Elitess, I have recently planted a tree on TreeNation and also watered yours too, great site. I do know of a site where you can raise funds but if I put the link here they might see it as a violation so I will PM you with it. Good luck with the fund raising. Huggles. Ellie :)

Hello ellie.
Be sure to add me at treenation, i would very much like that of course :D
Very good choosing the pm to do so, i was very careful when writing the topic as well to avoid any violations as well. I will be sure to give it a look and see if i can use it for what i want exactly.

Well one thing they can learn is that PAYPAL will not allow an individual to raise funds through his account (no matter the type) unless he is associated (on paper) with a specific organization / charity. That was the official answer i got from them.
