Using the mylot search directly from Firefox was discussed just a couple of days ago, but the solution therein didn't work in Firefox 4 on Linux. Here is a working solution. It should work for Windows users as well.
Warning: you might have to connect to the Internet as "root" in order to have the correct permissions. That is quite dangerous, so do it quick and get out fast!
Adding the mylot search to Firefox has been discussed before, and I found the answer through a mylot search. But as you know the mylot search engine can be quite frustrating, and I have been unable to find that particular discussion again. Therefore, I cannot give credit to the original poster.
You need to go to this page:
http://www.scriptsocket.com/cgi-bin/firefoxplugins/generate.cgi
Fill in the form with these values:
Name: mylot
Description: Search with mylot
Version: (default or whatever you want)
Domain URL: http://www.mylot.com
Action URL: http://search.mylot.com/search.aspx
Method GET
Icon/Image: (You have to supply this so have it ready beforehand!)
Search input: t=web&k
Optional Inputs: (blank)
Then click on the "Generate Firefox Search Plugin" button. After the page has refreshed, (it looks almost the same!) click on the "Install 'mylot' Firefox Search Plugin" link that is rather oddly placed above the form!
Follow the usual instructions and you will then have a working mylot search.
Finally check the file ownership and permissions to ensure that it will work under your user account.
Happy searching!

This is a great Petersum. I just downloaded Firefox 4 from my other PC and I'll try the steps you've posted on this discussion. I'm currently using Chrome on my laptop and I followed the steps given by Milamber52. I hope I'll be getting mylot rewards this time LOL. By the way, I believe you are referring about this discussion posted by Milamber52: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2479267.aspx
