This photo shows the trellis I finally bought for my purple Clematis. This things climbs so much I had to have a trellis. Previously I used string etc to train it to climb on. Now this year it won't look so cluttered I hope. This trellis was on sale at Menards for only $19.99. Do you have climbing flowers at all? Do you use string or ties or a trellis for it?

Nice looking trellis. I like the way it sort of cuddles the clematis.
I'd show you a pic of my new arbor, but my camera's having a hissy fit.
(Could be the batteries.)

My mom had a purple clematis and had a trellis made of rebar. She is gone now, I have the trellis behind a climbing rose. I have a wild or "kitchen" clematis, and it is taking over everything. We have just gotten Menard stores. Oh, and I have red honeysuckle on a wire trellis and the wild or Japanese honeysuckly growing all over a fence. I also have been known to put up lattice for climbers.

I dug up an ugly wild one in the back yard. It was huge and had very few flowers on it and it interfered with my veggie garden. HAHA!

I use a decent weight string for my morning glories to climb my rain gutter. For my climbing roses I cut strips of an old tee shirt and tie them to the canes to the fence it's next to.

I have heard that but since I don't wear any to work anymore I don't have any old ones to use and I can't see buying new. But the t-shirt strips did just fine last year.

I don't have climbing flowers but last year I planted some runner beans and boy, did they RUN! I had a 5' trellis meant for tomatoes but they climbed that then hung over almost to the ground. They also wrapped around my corn. I'm planting bush beans this year!

Yeah, I need to get something for my beans to climb this year. Last year I used poles and string and it was a pure mess actually. So some stakes and rabbit fencing is what I plan this year. Not too costly either, maybe $20 or less total for it all. I am planting Ideal Market Beans this year. They produce a 5 inch snap bean. Hopefully they do well.

When I had my 32 rose bushes I use to use the extra ties I always had available to tie them to the trellis. I always lightly tied them so that they had room to continue to grow.

I am always happy to bring back memories.
Especially when it comes to gardening and or flowers.
I used to buy a lot of flowers and plant them in a wishing well for my mom on Mothers Day. I did that 3 years after she passed and miss doing it.

I have a jasmine vine, the sweet smelling kind. For years I have meant to do something better for it besides the normal recycled strings
. I hope this year I´ll do it. Your trellis is wonderful. That´s exactly what I need.

This isn't a flat trellis either. It is offset so it looks better.
Hard to tell in this photo with the shadowing.

I had some clematis growing in one house I lived in. They weren't mine, they were left by a previous occupant. I noticed that they are self limiting, that is they grow on the available space then stop. If you give them more or less space, they adapt accordingly.

All plants only grow as big as the area they are planted in. This one I planted 3 years ago now has 8 shoots growing this year. Nice and large this year. Thanks.
