Posting comments without reading and understanding the discussion topic...

As I was going through various discussions and responses and comments received by other members I noticed that some of the members responses clearly showed that they just saw the title and added their views without actually going through what the discussion starter had written - the content . Not that I am against anyone adding their own views but it should have at least some relevance to the topic and also have some connection to what is being discussed...I have even left a few comments on members posts where I felt it was necessary. I feel that when members take the trouble to look up topics and start a discussion, the person responding should at least get the gist of the matter before posting a comment . What do you all say ? what are your views regarding this ?

I am agree with you that before commenting on any topic we must be read it. I suggest we also read the comments of the other lotter to have idea of the topic. But some time we comments in few words only to active here. Money is also reason for it. All the lotters here are not for only to participate in discussion. they want some earning from this site.

Hi Kiran I accept it that earning and post related for me. But to earn I don't respond on each and every topic I recd. I feel uncomfortable to respond on topics submitted by non Indians. It my try to read the topic than respond on it and I also like to respond on the topic submitted by friends. It is happen some time that comments are not relevant to the topic. Because I could not read topic carefully due of time problem. I welcome your suggestion and I will be careful in future. Thanks

Hi anil, that's not the idea here! When we discuss any topic here we should be able to post our views and what we feel about the topic or about the discussion in general, also talk about related topics , personal feelings etc; But when someone posts things like "how are you, thanks for the discussion, it is very helpful etc etc ,have a nice day "and finish their post, it shows a lack of interest. You always make good posts anil, that contribute to the discussion , so be your natural self and all the best

Hi kiran, Very true. I too have observed that the user puts his/her response without reading the given post nor trying to explore what actually is there in the discussion. Of course there are some who just put a couple of lines and the post is more like a quiz. And this leads to misunderstanding between the post creator and the responders. Trying to justify such out of context response there is a factor that many people avoid responding and that is very long discussion topic and the incoherent content in the post. Still I stick to what you have said that one should be careful about responding a post.

Hi krajibg, thanks a lot for sharing your viewsI agree that many members would be pressed for time and would like to do the best they can under the circumstances. But when someone does not understand the discussion or is confused, I feel that it is best to ask questions and clarify rather than post irrelevant matter. In fact there have been times when a discussion starts with one topic and touches all the related topics when there is active discussion and inputs by the members.I feel that a discussion should never be limiting, one should be free to cover all topics possible but with some relevance to the previous post...

Hello Kiran, I have seen such wonderful reply many times. Some people are giving titles which many not be related with the content. The responders don’t have the patience to read the content and reply quickly to earn some bucks. Once I really laughed loudly my self after reading a reply, the question was nothing to do with the reply where the starter ignored that reply without his/her comment. Misunderstanding occurs but without reading the contents giving the reply is weird.

Hi Sreekala, thanks a lot for sharing your views !I agree that some of the members make very interesting posts and it may nit be strictly about what is being discussed, but indirectly it would have some relevance to what is being discussed and thats what counts. Some of the replies are witty and humorous which is really nice..all the best sreekala and enjoy your weekend

I am with you here, but then I am guilty of it as well! This generally happens to me when the title is very interesting but the discussion is looooooong. I try to speed read through and post a response. Sometimes my speed read works against relevance and I post a blooper. Sometimes a link posted is very relevant to the discussion. As I use my cellphone to respond when I am home, I miss browsing through that and again embarrass myself. It is funny sometimes and downright idiotic at other times.

Hi webearn, thanks lot for your response! As long as you know that there is always scope for a change I guess. When I initially joined mylot, I was not sure how to go about posting comments . So, I used to play it safe by adding one or two sentences . But later on I learnt after reading the responses posted by the older members - all the best and have a nice day

I've seen that sometimes too. More than one response was completely crazy and off-topic the main discussion, mainly posting ref links where none has been asked, or simply writing after reading the very first sentence. I think that is due to some members just posting garbage like crazy to earn more money, not knowing that if you post useless and irrelevant things you'll earn NOTHING. And also, many members don't know that this is not the average forum where everything is accepted, but your post must have some kind of relevance and content.

Hi RamRes, I too hate such posts where a member posts only links although now with stricter regulations there are not many such posts.Ample opportunity is given to a member here to post all that on one's profile so, why spoil a discussion with unnecessary matter ? I agree that there will hardly be any earning when you post irrelevant matter .It can happen with a new members who is not sure as to how to post in a discussion topic. It happened with me right at the beginning since I had never been part of a discussion site, but many members sent messages and helped me out...Thanks a lot for sharing your views and all the best

yeah, I've noticed this too and it could be pretty annoying at times, specially when the title is being contrary to the posters real point...I've been answered by someone who clearly didn't read through the content of my discussion and I felt a bit bad about it since I always take time to read through the posts before I answer them, sometimes I even read all the responses first...I'm new here but I think that as a member I have the right to say that we should thoroughly read through the post first before answering to avoid mishaps and unwanted annoyance...

Hi mara, thanks a lot for your response I agree that when you are expecting some good responses and a lovely discussion from members and receive a noncommital response it does make you feel disappointed.Thats how I have felt on some of my topics, but again may be I was wrong in presuming that the topic was of great interest to others or that it had great potentials for an interesting discussion...However when we respond , the least we can do is to post some relevant responses...all the best and happy mylotting

Hello Dear Kiran! You are absolutely right! I too noticed this few times! We can make it from their response that they are in hurry and they want to comment as many as they can without looking into the details! though , I used to get irritated with such persons, now I really don't pay any attention to such responses or comments! For these people the question posed in the heading is important and without going into the details of the discussion and getting the crux of the discussion or gist of the discussion , they leave a comment in hurry to go for the next one! I think we have to bear this type of members also on this forum as all can't be equally serious while discussing a topic! Thanks for the discussion!

Hi AKRao,Thats exactly what I meant, that many members post without going into the details of the discussion or getting the crux of the matter being discussed. No doubt that it takes all types to form a community and that is the case with mylot too.More than being irritated I feel bad because the discussion does not progress when you have many such responses - all the best and happy mylotting

OMG...hallelujah! You are airing one of my biggest "bugbears" here...NOT READING THE DISCUSSION fully...and jumping in with a disjointed response, sometimes totally off topic. I was reading a HUGE discussion by our famous (Ms.H--most senior member here with over 41,000 posts) and NOTED that over 50% had NOT read the discussion in it's entirety and absorbed it...before responding. She had to spend all that time correcting the "feux pas!" AND along with that bugbear, is that ALL previous responses are NOT read, and the same answer is repeated over and over again! My notifications come via "Outlook" and I always "View this discussion" rather than jumping to "Respond to this Discussion," as by reading all the responses, it might give me a different take on things! In my books......YOU ARE SO RIGHT...Thnx for bringing this matter to the forefront..and you have put it so succinctly.

Hi pergammano, Thanks a lot for sharing your views I too had started a discussion topic which according to me was interesting and had a lot of scope for discussion, but some of the responses make you feel disappointed. However, thankfully such responses are not many. One need not go into huge details, but what is needed is one's own view about the topic being discussed or anything related to it - all the best, enjoy your weekend

hi kiran8 do I ever know what you say.I just had a discussion where half were just responding to the title and not bothering to read my discussion that explained the title in more detail. the title did not say half of what I explained in my discussion and was in quotes yet half said they were sorry I had lost my earnings and wondered how a person who had racked up so many points did not know you were supposed to sign in at least every 90 days.I had to keep saying that was not about me but amothe mylotter who had been gone for months and was calling mylot a scam and saying they stole her earnings. It got old fast as I got so far 96 responses and I have pretty much commented on all of them.

Hi Hatley, I did go through the discussion you mentioned and have left a comment there! I have seen several such discussions where members read a part of the discussion , probably only the title and then post their comments. In fact I had a similar experience where a member gave a reply based on what he thought was the subject matter I was discussing although it was quite different. But we did have a good discussion on what he posted as well as what I posted ,after I pointed out what I had actually meant to discuss lol...As long as the discussion is lively and there is some positive outcome it does not matter. What is irritating is the vague and general comments made by members. Once I saw a member post the same response to all the discussions that he/she posted in...

the people who care about the site and the discussions do take care. I figure the ones who just pop in and respond to the title are the guys who are just here for the money.

I agree dawnald !That's what I too feel about such comments.I happened to see one member post the same 2 line comments on all the discussions he/she took part on a particular day which had absolutely no relevance to any of the topics LOL ...all the best and enjoy your day

Some people are in it for the money so write as many posts as they can without going to the trouble of finding out what the discussion is truly about.I to joined my lot to earn some extra money, however i try to make make well thought out, relevant and good quality posts. This is because i enjoy the interesting discussions on mylot and that i know that the payment algorithm is based on the quality of posts.

Kiranji You know my discussions are bit lenghty, i can't start one liners or generic type discussions, many of the members don't have patient to read, they see the title only and repond, at times the response has nothing related to the discussion.. Thanks for sharing Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

This does happen quite a bit and I do try my darndest to make sure I understand and can post a relevant response. If I do not understand the topic clearly but feel that I do, I will always say I hope I understood your topic and if I am way off do come back and let me know so we can discuss further. It usually works out well because I am one who likes to further discussions and by leaving such type of response makes for furthering and better understanding. We should all really read the full discussion before applying a response. I do see that at times it does happen where members clearly did not fully read and have jumped to conclusions. If that is the case there is nothing wrong with the discussion starter questioning and the two furthering to come to a full discussion. Sadly at times it does not happen and that is where you can't help but feel that they only posted for the sake of earning the few cents. I did make a mistake once by not really fully understanding the topic but fortunately we both went back and forth and it actually made for a really great discussion.

Hi hardworkinggurl, Thanks a lot for sharing your views sometimes, I too have posted without actually understanding what the discussion was, either because it was vague or I was pre occupied. However, one can go on adding and make a discussion interesting instead of giving standard and boring comments like , thanks and all the best...enjoy your evening

Yeah, I've seen lots of users doing that. I think it happens because most myLot users are only in for the money, hence thinking that the more they posts they do, the more they will earn. Most myLot users who think that way are in a rush of answering a lot of discussions as fast and as many as possible that they do not bother reading the whole content of the started discussion anymore.

I don't agree with the point that most mylotters here for the money only ! I see the older members taking the trouble to add very relevant points sometimes paragraphs of news , and it makes me very happy to go through it . However, there are some who are here solely for the money and they may not bother about the quality of their posts..thanks aa lot for sharing your views and happy mylotting
