It's Nice To Give Once In A While

Well, I know my iPod wasn't free but the Buyer DID get it cheap on Ebay. The reason for this is that it is "cosmetically-challenged" as I put it. Anyway, I received a really nice follow-up email from "Peter" who - initially asked me "what on earth had I done to the iPod..poor thing!" Then he mentioned the fact that he didn't CARE what it looked like as he is currently playing it in his car. My CDs are on there and I'm so chuffed the guy is getting some use out of an iPod that I used to get pleasure out of but no longer played. I told him that my initial plan was to download the tunes back onto my computer but the USB cable was not compatible with my new machine..and I certainly wasn't going to fork out another £16 for a new cable from the Apple website. Hence the sale. I know I didn't sell the iPod for a vast amount but I don't actually care. What I care about is the fact that someone else is getting pleasure out of it. I hadn't used it for ages so why have it stored in a drawer when someone like "Peter" can put it to good use? Have you ever done this? Let someone else take pleasure out of an object that you have no use for..and keep it clean please. Hahaha!

No, all I said in the description of the item was that it held 1299 songs on it from my CD collection and that it was a 40GB version that can hold a lot more than that if they wished to add more. Hope this helps.

I do like the feeling of people having fun with things that i no longer use, as well as the things that my children no longer use.I tend to put things in charity bags, as i know there are people that can make use of the things that i no longer want, or no longer need.

The charity bag thing I do too. However, I only give to the British Heart Foundation and I haven't had a bag from them this year. The cynic in me is wondering if the last lot of clothes they received weren't up to much (hubby's) so the staff couldn't nick any of it!

Hello Janey. There are yahoo groups all over the world named "freecycle x" where x stands for the name of the town. I am registered to the one corresponding to my city, Bucharest, but have not used it for getting or receiving anything so far. I have been involved with a community of good hearted people, and from 3 separate old computers that did not work, managed to make 1 fully working unit, which with a monitor contributed by another person, and with the transport provided by a 3rd person managed to get to a needy family that were more then happy to receive it.

Hello! Aww, what a lovely thing you did there with the computer, it warms my heart, it really does. I gave my old computer to the recycling centre who has a company working on their behalf to re-use parts. It is a charity that donates computers that would've been thrown onto a landfill site a few years ago. Don't worry, there isn't anything left of my identity on my old comp but the monitor was ok..it just had an different way of connecting up. If that could be converted that, too, will have a new lease of life. Just like my iPod has.

I hardly give my objects to anybody, but if there is a situation where Iam not using the object which I have then probably I give it someone elese who makes a regular use of it. If I seems that what Iam having is literally new there is always thing in mind to keep the object but even though I kept in preserve such things I hardly use them.. Then I just thing that it would have been better if I gaved the object to someone. In my life I have experienced this many times that probably when u buy something after the lust of the object goes u tend to go far away from the object then in this situation it is better to give.. Then to keep and have no use.

Well, my iPod will get used a whole lot more with its new owner than I did, mainly due to it being the Classic model and is quite bulky compared to the newer versions. Playing it in a car (as the new owner is doing) would be ideal as it doesn't matter how big the iPod is or what it looks like.

That's a very nice...turn of events. Anyway, it's rare that I don't feel really happy with myself after giving something to somebody. When I used to make accessories for a hobby, people often complimented me on the unique designs I came up and though I sometimes sold certain pieces, I often gave some away that friends of mine really liked. I always get a kick out of their stories about the stuff pieces I gave them...one even said, her boss kept on asking where she got the brooch she was wearing for an event and she just said that her friend, that would be me, made it and there's nothing like it anywhere else. Learning that gave me a fuzzy feeling all over.:)

Aww, that's lovely, well done. How come you don't make the accessories anymore? I realise you say it was your hobby but do you do something else now instead?

I know nothing about Ebay.Judging by what you said,I think of it as flea market in a sense. It amazes me to find that people who have never met before can make a deal each other on Ebay and each supplies what the other needs. The Ebay to some extent stimulates the interchange of products.

It is amazing isn't it, that someone I've never met can buy something of mine and enjoy it like I used to. I usually have the collection in person only option but decided, with the iPod, that it would be fairly cheap to post it (and it was) so, obviously, I had it weighed first before finding out how much to charge. He appreciated the fact I posted it to him rather than him having to pick it up. He did live in Cheshire so I couldn't expect him to drive up here as it's a fair way away.

Thats nice that you sold your item and didnt just let it sit and get tossed out. I sell some of my clothes to fund the purchase of new needs. I donate the majority of my items to charity and we have a freecycle that I also end my items to. My children take a lot of their electronics to buy different games and things they may need for their playing systems. I often look on Ebay for electronics and I sell craft items on ebay and etsy.

My old computer went to a recycling centre and the parts will be used again at a well-respected charity in the area. I've donated many clothes over the years, to the British Heart Foundation. Unfortunately, I haven't received a bag off them for a while. Perhaps they didn't like the standard of clothing last time? Well, they were hubby's. Haha!

I have never had any feedback from an E Bay sale but i do use Freecycle and i know that the things that i have got rid of have been much wanted. I even gave our old work photocopier to a newly formed charity who managed to get it going again. The feeling of giving something that will bring pleasure to the new owner is a very good one. Isn't it?

Wow what a sweet deal there. You made someone really happy with this sale. I don't blame you because why leave something collect dust when someone else can enjoy it and hey better a few dollars from it then tossing it a few years from now. You have inspired me to do the same. I have a few electronics here I am not using so I will be putting them up for sale too, cheap also because why not make a few bucks and allow someone to benefit from it while we make a few dollars. So I will be gathering a few of them and letting you how I do with them on Ebay. I may need your guidance. lol

That's wonderful news! It is humbling for me to know that my actions are inspiring you my friend. Please let me know how you get on and I shall indeed help you, if you so wish. I'm determined to get rid of my silver wireless keyboard and mouse (that works perfectly) but this is the 3rd time I've tried selling it on ebay! I'm practically giving it away lol.
