Source Nasa Science News May 9, 2011 http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/09may_morningplanets/ Friends have you ever woken up at the crack of dawn, shuffled to the kitchen counter for your first cup of tea or coffee, only to discover that you're out of coffee beans? This week it's not a problem, because there's something to open your eyes even better than coffee. Four bright planets are aligning in the morning sky. Look out any east-facing window about a half hour before sunrise. If you have a clear view of the horizon, you'll see Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter clustered together in a patch of sky less than 10o wide. If you wanted to, you could hide them all behind your outstretched hand—but don't. The view is too good. The best morning is May 11th, when Venus and Jupiter converge to form a tight pair only 1/2o apart. (Now you can hide them using no more than one finger.) Venus and Jupiter are so bright you might think you've witnessed a double supernova beaming through the morning twilight. But, no, it's just the two brightest planets in our own solar system. The show comes to an end on May 30th when an exquisite crescent Moon joins the four planets for a Grand Finale--five heavenly lights dotting the eastern sky all at once. Now my view on this as per Hindu Astrology, such alignment of planets is called ‘Graha-kut’, ‘graha’ means planet and ‘kut’ means conspiracy; it has some effect on us in this earth. In the past there were such 5 planet, 9 planet alignments, they were known as ‘Pancha graha kut’ and ‘Naba graha kut’; they showed their effects. Please respond and share your valued opinion, Thanks in advance. Professor ‘*Bhuwan*’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

This kind of scientific information always triggers my memory about Christian belief and planetary alignment. According to Christian belief there was a bright star in the east leading three powerful leaders from distant lands to the Christ child just after his birth. Scientists believe this bright star was actually a planetary alignment that correlates with the month and year of Christs birth. So when I learned of this, at the youthful age of 12 I immediately thought about the second commandment and all Christians follow to this day; Do not have any gods before me. We were taught that astrology was a "false god". Science has proven much of the teachings of the Christian faith is not true the Catholic Church had to change it's thinking to align more with scientific fact, leading to Vatican II. In the late 1960's it was finally taught that evolution was the true way God formed the world, but we are still taught Adam and Eve were the first humans. Eve actually came from Adam's rib, of all things! And about a year before the announcement of Vatican II I asked one of my Catholic teachers why we are Catholic if Christ was Jewish. That still confuses me to this day and I'm 54. I could go on and on about this lack of correlation but one fact remains to this day. I honor and appreciate all views of people who love God. There is no best way but to Love God is to love your neighbor, your "brothers", no matter where they are. May you have a blessed day!

Hi! Thanks so much for informing us. I was amazed by just watching the link you gave. I don't get up that early yet these days. But I'll try to look for proper coordinates since I'm in Asia. But watching the video itself was so cool. I agree it is better than morning coffee, since I am a coffee lover too. hehehe. Anyway, not to exaggerate but waking up without cofee is like .... wwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttt????????

hello Profsaheb, namaskar. You are very lucky to be able to have a clear sky where you live and a horizon to view stars and planets. When i was working in Muscat in the 80`s i had the good fortune to see the most wonderful spectacle of the sky blazing with stars, planets, constellations, nebulae and galaxies.I aslo had a refractor telescope through which i could see many of the sky objects. However on my return to Mumbai all this could not take place as the city is polluted with dust and light pollution.I sold my telescope as there is no horizon or even the sky visible as buildings have become multistoreyed and cut off the view.I feel bad as i am an avid night sky watcher but there is nothing i can do about it.

I love the jewels sparkling at night as I feel at peace with nature while viewing the wonders in the sky. When computer invaded the world, many, including myself, have taken for granted the beauty of night sky. Many of the children had stop playing and running under the moonlight. Reading a post about planets alignment reminds me what I missed in life. It's indeed nice of you to post something this interesting. I hope I could get a glimpse of this phenomenon at dawn. The problem is I sleep late at night thus, it is hard for me to wake up that early but I'll try. Thank you for keeping us posted. It's an interesting topic you have posted here. I'm learning as I don't know much about planet alignments. All I know they are up there smiling down at me, making my night a little bit brighter and making me feel relaxed at the sight of them.

Wow, that was so nice of you to inform us about that. I will try catching that scene sometime on those very early mornings of May 11 to 30. I just hope it won't rain anymore, because for the past days it has been raining in our place because of the typhoon. Luckily, the typhoon was not that strong. Wish me luck that i may be able to see it.
