PayPal sucks Indians only?

I wonder it is only for Indian members. On 15th I logged in to my account, it asked to add purpose- I added ‘Freelance Journalism’ It asked to ADD PAN number so added my Permanent Account Number issued by Income tax dept, government of India. It asked Credit card number, as the card added had expired, I added card of another bank and also added the savings bank account number. It DIDN’T ACCEPT ‘ATM’ card, though there was option. There was some money, less than $15 there. I tried to transfer it to hubby’s PayPal account, so that he can transfer to his Indian bank account, along with his money in PayPal, thus we can save Rs.50.00 as charges. This we used to do earlier; but this time, PayPal didn’t allow, it said, “We notice that you are attempting to pay an Indian resident user. The payment you initiated has been blocked. PayPal only facilitates international payments and cannot be used for domestic payments within India. We suggest you find alternative methods to complete the payment. If you believe that the person you attempted to pay is not based in India, please contact PayPal customer support.” Too bad, why PayPal is doing all this? Why it should not accept ATM card, all don’t have credit cards, it is not easy to get one. Do you face similar problems? You loaded credit card or ATM card? Is it easy to get a credit card? I want information from members from other countries, but Indian friends can share their experience too. Please respond and share your views. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. . God bless you to enjoy a lucky day ahead.

Hi Kalyni ji, Yes the paypal transfer (for free) blocked long back for Indians but it was possible through other method even though they charged high fee for transfer. From last March they announced that we can only transfer money to bank only. I added the purpose code yesterday as I got a mail from them asking to add the purpose code. I already given the PAN card details and I have given the details of credit Card when the time of verification. (thanks to my hubby as he is having credit card and his bank is providing credit card for spouse as a gift). There is only one way, link your bank account with paypal and transfer the money to bank. I think there is no more information needed by paypal from me. Let me wait.

You are correct. it is convenient provided u have credit card. You can ask your own banker to give credit card. They will be willing to give.

hello kal, i guess it is due to the RBI rules that users seems to be hands tied. this rule does not have the liberty other countries are getting. here, you cannot chose who you want to send your hard earned money, the government dictates. dont you feel terrorized? i agree too that not everybody has credit card. isnt that dictating? i dont like it either. i feel angry indians are suffering. ann

This direction is based on directives from Reserve Bank of India, the central bank of India. they have to comply with the directions. I think you have similar problems in Philipines also. In fact a myLOt member from Philipines told that her paypal account was cancelled because she could not given her credit card details - she has only bank account which is not accepted by paypal. May be if you have complied with all the formalities of paypal in your country, may be you can help many of philipines members. have a good day

Dear Kalyaniji I have just lost an old client due to this very issue. Somehow he had deposited more than what I was to get into my Paypal a few months back. We realized that last week and I was to refund him the amount. When I tried to make the payments, paypal just didnt allow. I do not have a credit card but a plain ATM Card with matercard logo (as per them it should work) but when the last week I was trying to get it connected/linked, they simply denied stating that the card is INVALID Heck, I have been using that card across almost all ATMs, Payments Sales Points etc and they have no issues, but paypal says it cannot be validated. My relationships with the client are on the verge of breaking up on a note that - I am a cheater. Though I have asked him his bank details so that I can try a wired transfer but the amounts and charges will be too expensive. The Problem with paypal is that their staff / support are still unsure about what is to be mentioned as a response to our queries. Everytime, you complain or book a ticket, you find someone else re-starting all their set of so very useless suggestions.

it was easy for me to comply with the requirements. I gave credit card. Getting a credit card is not tough. Debit cards are not accepted -- Possibly it is a rule. Rules are to be followed. Money will be credited to the account holders bank account only and not to other's accounts. Thank u madam for raising this discussion which I am sure will clarify the doubts of others also. Have a good day.

Kalyniji. Your problem is not created by Paypal. Recently RBI changed some guidelines and all Indians having account with PayPal are suffering. RBI framed these guidelines to prevent money laundering by unsocial, and terrorist elements. All of us earning pennies with declared purpose of 'freelance journalism' are also being harassed. We earn by hard work and are not allowed to keep our earnings for more than 7 days in our account and so we end up paying a dollar for transferring the balance to our Bank. Government lets off tens of thousands of crores through scams and it is harassing people like us earning few bucks through real hard work. Screw them. I do not have a credit card. This was only required at the time of verification which I got done by the other alternative which I do not remember what. Thereafter my transfers have been smooth so far.
