I love the Borgias on Showtime. It began a little slow but has picked up speed. I realize that the series is based on a real pope, I believe, Alexander VI. And a real family, that family being The Borgis. And that the pope and his family were very corrupt and engaged in murder as well as other organized crimes. But I wonder how accurate the series is. How fictionalized is it? What is true and what is made up? How do I find out? Are others watching this series? What is your opinion?

Well, The Borgias come after the success of another Showtime hit, the Tudors. As a historical account, the show has a good historical foundation. Some of the facts in the show are real facts but most of it is of course, fictionalized to make the story acceptable and marketable to TV viewers rather than historians. Only time will tell on how historically accurate the show is. Some internet pages do compare and contrast a historical TV show from the actual historical accounts. TV execs have been notorious to made a kaleidoscope of facts and fiction when it comes to historical TV to make it palatable to their audiences (that is in America, I don't know how the historical TV works in UK).
