How did it get started? Why is it so popular? I have seen a few clips on youtube and find it mildly amusing, but mostly. . .just annoying. My kids think it is hilarious--I don't even know how they learned about it. Is this a fad or something I should pay attention to?

Yes--it has just been "discovered" by the 5rd and 4th graders, and now it's all over the school. I can't wait for the new phase, because I've had enough of this one already!

My hubby was into watching those video's for some time. I don't think it's funny, but it takes something different and actually funny to get me to laugh and that is not it! I'm just glad he's stopped watching it, or atleast around me anyways.

It's ok in small doses, I guess, but the kids watch it OVER and OVER and OVER--aarrgghh! That laugh is like nails on a chalkboard!

You are right on both counts. I could see myself having nightmares about this crazy orange!

Someone in youtube made it. Well, that is the point- to be annoying, some people find him funny though. Even if people hate it or love it, they share it to their friends and it just spread to other people.
It's just funny and sometimes trying hard.

well, it certainly makes its point, and the creator is clearly a marketing genius (like the "pet rock" phase in my childhood). It is kind of funny, but is certainly annoying as well.
