Did you ever emigrate to another country?

When I was fifteen years old, my parents decided to emigrate to another country. At that time, I did not agree with this decision, but I went with them. Therefor, I had to learn another language, local customs...so that meant for me to start a complete new life. Sometimes, I thought about going back again or to emigrate again to another place. Have you ever emigrated to another country? Why and what was your experience?

I was born in the Dominican Republic and I moved to the United States when I was eight. It was really hard for me to move to another country because of the culture and language, etc. Even though I visit my relatives who live in the Dominican, I wish I lived there with them. That's where my childhood friends are and my family for which I care the most for. However, I do like the US. It's a beautiful country with beautiful places.

They same happens to me, I like the place and the language where I am living now, but I still have family and friends where I originally come from. The distance is hard to overcome.

Yes, I agree, the distance ishard to overcome. It's very difficult for other people to visit their native country. But in the other hand, you could always find a way to visit your relatives.

Hi, There are many people without any money and that's one of the reasons why they emigrate, as they wish to find a job, something impossible in their own country. But I am sure that your country must be a very nice one. Hopefully, I could visit it once in the future. Thanks for your post.

I was born & raised in Korea till I was 13 years old. I came to U.S. a month away from my 14th birthday. My parents immigrated here & I didn't have a choice at the time. I adjusted pretty quickly. There weren't too many Korean kids in the school I enrolled in to so I had to learn the language quickly. I did move around a lot in U.S. but now I'm pretty much settled in. I would love to visit other countries but I'm not sure about moving completely.

Korea must be a nice place! I was fifteen years old when my parents moved, so my situation was quite similar to yours. Maybe now you cannot imagine to move completly again, but when you get older, this experience might help you to take your decision in the future. In my case, we are thinking about moving to a completely new place (country).

I moved to France from the UK in 1997 to be with my lady. And because I'd finally landed a good job there. All in all, a very good experience: 7.5 years of working in a very intense industry, learning a new language and living in Paris. Then we came back here to the UK, so it's her turn to do all the expatriate stuff!

If only one of you has got the experience of moving abroad, the other person within the relation might not understand well several points of starting a new life. But now and after this experience, she will be able tu understand you better and you can share more aspects of your life. My husband also had to move from one country to another one, so he understands better my point of view when I am talking about emigration. Having similar experiences during live, makes the relationship more unified.

Yes, I met a guy who is now my husband, so I moved to the country where he is from. It was hard to adjust to a new country and learn a new language, but in the end I did it :) So now I don't mind...

A nice experience! It was surely hard at the beginning, but love can overcome all difficulties.
