I called Dell to get my warranty updated on my laptop back in March I think it was. The tech that helped me gave me a free printer because they couldn't give me the deal another tech I had talked to previously had told me they would. So I get the printer and I don't really need it. I figure it is expensive to keep the color inkjet thingees and I wouldn't be using it that much. So I put an ad on Craigslist. I get a bunch of junk mail back, not many people actually wanting to buy. This one I get from a Elizabeth Benson.( Foreign by the language she uses in the email.) She expresses an interest and says she has to accumulate the money($55) that I am asking for the printer and will get back to me. About a week later I hear back from her asking if it is still for sale and saying she is still interested and will be sending the money through Fed Ex Priority mail and I give her my address. (no other address to give and I figured it was just some foreign lady wanting a printer.) I email her back and tell her I will wait a week to get the check. While waiting I hear from another prospective buyer wondering where I am located and when they could pick up the printer. I tell them that I have to wait until Friday because I had given my word to this other person. I don't hear from this EB person for almost another week. I emailed the other person to see if they might still be interested. No reply. So I wait. Finally hear back from EB and she/he says I should have gotten the Fed Ex and that when I got it to take it immediately to the bank, cash the check and send the remainder back Western Union. What?! There is a balance? Things getting strange here. And about this time I get an email from a guy from a safety online site telling me this is FRAUD.(How did he even know about the whole thing I don't know)?? I emaied EB back and said NO! I am not following all these INSTRUCTIONS and not to email me again. I dont hear back from EB for several days. Then last Friday when I was getting ready to leave on our vacation the mailman brings me a Priority Mail envelope(USPS not Fed Ex) with a check in it for $3,450.00!!!! I have an email when I get back from out of town from EB saying he/she has gotten notification from the bank that I deposited the money. I had not. TODAY(Wedsnesday) I took the envelope and check to the post office as the guy from the safety online advised me to do. The gal there at the PO gave me a website I could go to to report the fraud and advised me to call the police. I went home and did both. Talked to a really nice police officer for nearly an hour about the whole thing, life, etc. So this has been reported. The last I have heard from EB was telling me that she/he was going report me to the FBI if I didn't get the balance of the money back to her/him and he/she hasn't heard from me in 24 hours. I haven't emaied EB back. The police offiecer said if it was him he would just string EB along and tell her/him that I was busy and hadn't gotten it done yet or whatever. I think I will string EB along for awhile. What would you do? Isn't this halarious? Have you ever had anything like this happen to you? How do I get rid of this printer?

I am unable to understand what made EB send cheque(fake) and what is the gain he/she will be making from this deal. Re. printer -- it is useless to have one unless we have regular work. As u rightly said maintaining inkjet printers is costly for a person who doesn't have more printing work. You have written what happened in an interesting way. what happened to the warranty from Dell. have a good day.

ravisivan, what they do is have you deposit the supposed check. give them the extra money, then when the check bounces at the bank, you owe, the money they have gotten from you!1 thats how it was explained to me when one was trying that on me. luckily, i got advice on it.

They send you a check in a large amount for something you are selling that doesn't cost must. Then they have you send them the balance of the check. This way they get real money. This EB person sent me a check for $3,450.00 for a printer that is $55. Then EB wants me to send back the balance of the check which would be over $2500.00!! EB's fake check is worth nothing but if she can get someone to send back the balance in real money then they are rich!

good. nice explanation. I could follow it now. Thank god u did not pay them any money. You can write an article or a book on this. You can collect the experiences of some more people also and them make it into a book. have a nice day.

Hmm... interesting. Thanks for sharing this. And thanks to your responders who explained how it works. Better to be aware of this and learn from other people's experience that having to experience it all myself... Puzzling though how the safety online guy knew about things beforehand... maybe transactions aren't private there... maybe someone is monitoring things... I guess that has its advantages. As for the printer, no harm in trying again, just be careful as always. Or you can also try to find a buyer offline. Maybe a neighbor, friend, relative, etc.

I thought it was interesting. How much nerve and gal these foreigners have now days. Ya, I thought it mighty weird how the safety online guy knew about the whole transactions. I am still puzzling over that. Monitoring is about all I could come up with. Oh! Believe me I have tried everybody all over the country to sell this printer. I am beginning to wonder if it won't be out dated before I get the thing sold. Don't want to go on Ebay but might have to. And make pennies if I wait too long.

isnt that terrible that someone would pull that crap and lose your getting it sold and all this trouble with having to do so much to get it straight. next time i'd just tell the person, first come first serve, bring the money, its yours. if someone else gets here first, sorry i wont have it.

Wow!!! No I have never had anything like that happen to me. That craigslist is full of people trying to cash in on others. I think I might just put that printer in the local paper or something.

I'm about ready to. The thing is going to be outdated before I get it sold.
