Why the husband is always the first suspect?

Ever watched tv show 48 hours? Way better than csi to those who love crimes like me. In most cases (it was rare a woman to kill but they do) why are husbands so suspect? I think most would have interest in money or personal gain as most 'regular' people's marriage don't have prenups, just saying that celebrities always takes care of that because they end up in divorce in like 99%.
Besides that why they think this? Do you think the husband/partner and or /wife are indeed the prime suspect?
Have a good day.

Most of the time married couples have life insurance and after time the person could have a pretty good bounty built up. That's the most assumed one.
However I think things such as jealousy, power, maybe a new woman. Also a lot of men don't like to show emotion, so to investigators it could look suspicious.

Hi Katie,
Husband/wife remain always the prime suspects because wife & husband are attached so much that police always suspect them. And in most of the cases this come to true also.
And in my opinion they should suspect also as one has better idea about his partner than others.
Suppose for example if someone's wife is murdered outside home then husband is always suspected because it is beleived that he only knows when she went out?? Where she went & for what?? Though he/she may be innocent.

hi katie well its because according to most police statistics it is most often either the husband or wife depending on which mate
was murdered who
is indeed the likely suspect. I like 48 hours too but CSI is my top favorite too. money is not always the cause, a lot of times its two moronic people who should never have married each other and one has just finally snapped and murdered the other.

Hi katie: I think this is a cliché. Policemen when they make their investigations they have to consider the stadistics. But it's not always the husband. When a crime is made, I know that in many cases the killer was a family member or a 'friend' who knows this person and have a reason to hate him/her.

The husband or wife is always the prime suspect in the murder of a spouse because there will be lots of motives that a husband or a wife could have.
If the woman is rich, it could be that the conjugal property could have taken interest of, by the husband and vice versa. It could be jealousy, as always the case. It could also be in a fit of fury over a disputed concern. or it could be the life insurance, where the husband or wife is the beneficiary.
