http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/04/solar_powered_b.php (If you don't like links,it's about a bikini covered in flexible solar cell material that apparently will produce enough juice to charge an Ipod or cellphone...) I saw an article on this first in my email, but deleted it,so had to go looking for another one when I'd then thought on it for a discussion! Though I only saw this today,it seems the tech has been in the pipeline a few years now.. I just had to ask,Who would be interested in wearing one of these items? From a (Guy!) observer's perspective,I thought a bikini was designed to maximise the wearer's tanning potential in the sun,so the smaller the bikini, the better the tan? The Inventor apparently first came up with the idea of a solar bikini that could run a beer cooler, but found it didn't have the juice for that..(Maybe he should try and market a Burkhini version?!) Going by the smallish surface area available with the bikini, wouldn't cladding the beercooler in solar cells be a better idea (If only less attractive, and more practical..) ? What do you think on this? Good idea, bad idea,Mixed thoughts, needs more work?

I think it's kind of ugly :S I wouldn't wear it. Bikinis are about being able to wear bright colors and skimpy shorts and tops that you couldn't wear any other time. I wouldn't want to feel like C-3PO by the pool. I would also be a bit worried about water getting on it.

Yep,it's a bit of a gimmick,IMO..a bigger object wrapped in solar panelling would be more effective and efficient than a little bikini! And for sunbathing purposes, the sun's not going to reach the parts hidden by a beach towel..Personally,I think a Beach umbrella or a windbreak screen would be better! Though the first article I read did mention that you could swim in it..just that not bringing the ipod along would be advised, and drying the bikini out thoroughly as well before plugging it in again..

Wow that is just to weird. That bathing suit is hideous. It is an interesting idea but I really dont think its practical. I know that I wouldnt want to wear one. It seems like it would be sweaty and not comfortable to wear at all. I liked the link that you attached it definitly gave me a better understanding of what you were talking about.

Yep, the fashionable aspect of it would be a factor too..I'm thinking a sun worshipping Geek Girl would rather have Her Gadgets solar powered, instead of by her Bikini!
