Ooma instead of magic jack

I heard many complaints against magic jack previously. Some people complain about its quality, and the software installed in their PC, it might tamper other functions to work normal. Other also complain about magic jack has no customer service. Once they sell you this product, you have to stuck with it for the whole year, and not getting any improvement or technical support.
Recently, I found people really satisfied with this phone modem called "ooma", work pretty much the same like magic jack, but it provides better quality than magic jack. It also requires to connect to the DSL modem, so you can talk free domestically, and internationally. But you have to pay $225 for the phone modem upfront just once. And lately, they also charge some junk fee, like $20 or $30 per year. Still, it is better than landline. What do you think?

I have a Magic Jack and find that the service is okay most of the time. Some of the things that bug me about it, however, are that if I'm playing a game on my computer an incoming call will interrupt it and come to the front of the screen, and when that person hangs up it will interrupt again. I also hate the voicemail system. I wish that I could just call a voicemail number for my phone and listen right there instead of trying to find the voicemail message in my email and listen to it on windows media player. Also, the Magic Jack has a tendency to make my computer run more slowly when I have it turned on for long periods of time. It's just so annoying.

I have MJ too and I can access my voicemail by calling my phone number. I thin you should be able to do this. You can check....Do you use a regular phone connected to the Magic Jack or just a headset.....not sure if that would make a difference but that popped in my head....I use a reg phone and I am able to call into my voice-mail and use a pin number for access.

Ooma seems very expensive when you compare it to Magic Jack. I wouldnt spend that much to get it, only to pay the same yearly fee Magic Jack has anyway. Magic Jack plus no longer needs a computer to be turned on to run so now it seems more like a good idea. We dont have a home phone right now but the kids are getting old enough to start calling friends and I dont want to waste my cell minutes. I still cant decide entirely.

I have never heard of ooma. I have magic jack and have never had any trouble with them. I like magic jack because it only costs 19.95 a year which is a lot less than what I was paying with a regular landline phone. I never pay anything more than 19.95 a year.

I have had OOMA for 2 years now bought it in 2013 and it's way cheaper now only cost around $150. My monthly bill is $4.20 and it works great.

I haven't heard of Ooma and it is a savings if it has good quality. However, if it doesn't, it is going to be a headache. That would be my apprehension. Check out their return policy and search out every review you can find by customers or client reviews. Remember, you can't always trust these......some companies and people have resorted to buying these. I would check cnet also before purchasing. Let us know how it turns out.
