Exaggeration

I put my internet and phone provider right up there on the level of Satan. Now, obviously that is an exaggeration. Although I feel like they are going to send me to the loony bin and will be chanting something demonic while doing it, I am overstating the problem. How often do you hear people exaggerate? A member of my family got into trouble when we were teens because her exaggerations had wandered into the territory of outright lying. But how about exaggerating. What are some of the best ones you've heard? A rat wearing a top hat dancing on the piano, only to find out it's just a mouse with a bowl haircut that is being electrocuted on a keyboard?! Do you wonder if I've taken up drinking (I haven't)?

hi ambiepam its hot here as the sun has been out all day June21 so I have finally given in and turned on the air conditioner. what luxyry we did not have that in our old room. oh my son when he was in kindergarten cameup with a dandy , we were worried as he was late coming home from kindergarten on the bus but we found him play ing with the puppy in the garage. he looked at us and told us that the bus driver kidnapped them all and drove to his house but they all escaped and walked to their homes. :Oh my" my husband said" I had better call the police as we can not have bus drivers kidnapping you kids," and he went to the phone and pretended he was dialing the Costa Mesa police. Our son got really upset' no no " daddy " He cried " i was just making up a story. honest" My husband laughed and said." Robbie its alright if you want to play with stevie just come and tell your mom first so she will know you got home safely" Stevielived next door and he and stevie had walked home from the bus okay.lol He never did make up such a preposterous story again. Now he is one of the most truthul people there is.I found out later on talking to the nice lady bus driver that she had made a stop to her home only because she had to go to the bathroom but all the rest of the story was highley exaggerated. she got a big laugh out of his story. She assured me she had delivered our son and all the o ther children safely to their homes. lol lol "

Yes what did you drink Ambie? My family went up to fight because of just exaggeration taletail before. There was this one neighbor who always wants to gossip and saw my dog pooping inside our house. She had shared the unpleasant news to her allies and told everyone our house was a garbage, full of poop of animals, our food were all dirty and we smell awful. Did you analyze that one? she just saw a dog pooped inside the house and then she already judge us about everything. Is that right? So exaggerating. So my mother got pissed and punched her in the face when they accidentally met in the street. When this lady complained in the police, my mother said, "she was just exaggerating, she just stepped in one dog's pooped and now she is telling you she was punched?"I asked the lady what is the reason she was being punched and she cannot say anything because she is guilty of what she said. so I just told her "sorry, my mother was exaggerating too, that is why she punched you".

You have got me confused here a bit. Are these providers promising you the moon and only twinkling a little star dust in your eyes? I have a brother that did not exaggerate, but told "funnies" with a straight face to see who would believe him. We have a German last name, but people would try to tell him Polish jokes and he would look straight faced and say "Don't you know I'm Polish? Or he would tell people that sand burs were really porcupine eggs. Whatever is going on with your providers, I hope it gets fixed soon.

Cox promised me a lower rate on my services then hiked them up. When called on the carpet for this they came up with a whole lot of excuses. Then I get a bill for equipment I don't even have. I'm in the middle of trying to get them to keep their word and get their messes sorted out.

Ah...I had this on my list of discussions to start! LOL...my son has a habit of exaggerating...not to hurt anyone....he just throws out a bigger number to enhance a story when he tells it. I have heard others do this and when they like say how sick they were when you see them you think they must have recovered very well or they really weren't that sick in the first place! Anyway..I know what you mean...silly to make stuff up or embellish a story for more interest...but some people just have to be bigger then life!

Kind of like when you hear a guy caught a fish as big as a shark and when mounted it looks like a minnow.

I may take up drinking due to this math and the problems it is giving me.. My daughter constantly exaggerates: "Takes them fifty billion years to call back" type of exaggeration...I'll say it is a million degrees out or 2 degrees out. (depending on if I am very hot or cold)But I don't exaggerate to where it becomes a lie, and my fmaily knows I am being sarcastic..

hi carm I was just thinking,oh oh bad idea, about my term big old. My husband had asked me if I had any trouble walking through the wind storm to work that day. He was invalided and I was working in the library. I said" Not too bad but the wind did blow a big branch off that big old Olive tree on the corner or first and Homestead and it almost hit me. You know that big old olive tree?" He looked at me and said "hOney its not that old ,they planted it just last year." He was always teasing me about my saying big old this and big old that. However when his sister cam to see us, she was telling us about the 747 she had come in from Walla Walla Washingon. She looked at my husband and said" Garland that big old plane just went right straight up. wow that was scary." I had to laugh at the expression on his face. I spoke up"I was not laughing at you but Garlands always giving me a bad time when I say big old and then YOU said it." she laughed too and said"Patsie I guess we know how big that big old plane was, dont we?" He quit teasing me then as his own sister used that same expression.

Aren't we in a silly mood today! My exaggerations tend to turn into lies as well.. it's something I had to try to stop. I always managed to get caught in my lies or exaggerations. I'd tell one person one story, then another person a different story, and forgot whom I told what to. That basically put an end to my lying and over-exaggerating days.

It's refreshing when people can be honest about things they might not be proud of. Most of us are afraid to do that.

I used to work with someone that was the QUEEN of exaggeration and she thought that everything had to be her way. She tended to treat everyone with disrespect and complain about everything if you did not Bow down to her, and would even treat you and many times the customers on the phones needing cabs like children. If you did not listen to her it was even worse. Nothing could ever go right, and we were all Glad when she just one day decided she did not want to come to work no more and was let go.

I consider that some of the wildest exaggerations are the prolific ones that use as everyday speech. It seems to be standard practice for someone who is feeling cold to state quite emphatically "I am freezing", which we all know is completely absurd. Of course we get opposite with "I am boiling" to state that are hot. With commonly used phrases such as "I am dying of thirst" or "This will take for ever to do" people have no need to try to exaggerate since it would be difficult to exaggerate to a greater extent.

I have some shine if you have taken up drinking. There I did it also I'm not even a drinker of anything stronger than coffee. I think it is pretty easy to "expand the truth" a bit sometimes when we get excited or angry.

Hi AmbiePam. I was going through my email for I'm so very far behind in responding to everybody's discussions and when I came to yours (this one) I had to answer right now! Talking about exaggerating! Wow! My cousin can exaggerate like you wouldn't believe! She told me stories all the time that were just beyond my imagination and she'd scare me batty! But the thing is, I believed her. Every word she said, I believed her and was to afraid to ask my parents about any of her escapades. One I remember VERY well was when I was a kid, my great aunt had this beautiful clock that was in this glass case. It was very very old and oh so beautiful! It sat high up on this shelf like thing and I always wanted to touch it but was told not to. Well my cousin told me that if I took the glass case off of it, the clock would disappear! Needless to say, I never touched it from then on! I was to afraid to! If it disappeared then I'd be in a whole lot of trouble! Silly me, I was so young and very nieve.

You have obviously never spoken to my husband. This man thinks he knows everything there is to know about anything there is to know everything about! And if he asks a question... he never says "oh, okay, I didn't know that" Or.."oh thanks for clearing that up." or something like that. No, its always "Oh, that's what I thought"

the common exaggeration that i hear when people was waiting for someone who came up an hour late or bit more this is what they usually "Almost all of my hair turned white already because i have been waiting for you too long". or sometimes "My eyes turned white already for waiting too long". Or "I could have watch 10 movies already while waiting for you". although it will be only one movie or half of the movie. It depends on the situation. but i make sure my exagerration is something obvious and not look like i am lying or something.

Hi my "Sweetest Lil' Sis! I just have to tell you that you made my miserable day! You made me laugh with that "scenerio" of the mouse!lol I can't think of one story right now, but I'm sure if I wasn't so damn tired and stressed I could find a great one! I had to get my "throat scoped" today and I'm tired and stressed. I went to the stores with my "psycho-friend" which turned out to be a nightmare since she is really menatally ill (seriouslly)! I could't wait to get away from her. Let me think for a bit and I'll try to get back to ya! Anyway, you know i loves ya and Annabelle! Love, Les, Star & Luns

I hear people exaggerate a lot. One of my friends is prone to it, and you literally don't know whether he's telling the truth or not. It's hard, because you want to believe your friends. Trust is one of the most important things that you can have in a friendship and if that isn't there then it can make the friendship incredibly difficult. With this friend in question, I have told him that I don't trust him and he understands why, but still he just cannot help himself form exaggerating whenever he tells us a story about something that's happened to him.

AmbiePam.. Got another one for you. Another motto, " I am too blessed to be stressed". They ain't gonna worry me or send me to the loony bin. If they want to exaggerate let them. I will just stare them down like they are crazy or on medication. Now, I can make a mountain out of a mole hill. Like today, I really got down on a few of my family members because I only hear from them when they want something. And it is always on the days when I got something to do. And you know what they will never hear the last of it either. When I see them again I will bring it up again.
