Calling all "Buy America First" folks!

It's been almost 2 years since the Obama administration stole the assets of the General Motors Corporation, keeping controlling interest, and handing a large amount of stock to the United Auto Workers Union. In those 2 years, there have been GM plants opened up in Mexico, but not a single new plant has been started in the US. Furthermore, for years the left has been blaming the right for "sending jobs overseas", yet in the 2 years the left has controlled GM, none of the jobs GM sent overseas have been brought back. Detroit has been in a recession for 15 years now.. that means it hasn't benefited from either Republican or Democrat controlled Congress or White House. I'm sure, if either the Obama administration, the UAW or the left in general gave a crap about US jobs, something would have been done... but they really don't care, they only care about who they can blame, and perpetuating class warfare.

Well look at what they bailed out a failed Duck. No kidding GM doesn't need to expand its United States based sales I mean GM is a failed company in the United States market hence why they failed when companies like Ford, Nissan, and Toyota didn't I mean GM hasn't been a good selling brand in the United States for years in their consumer markets and well they where doing good for awhile with the need form Hummers and other vehicles but now they have the Bailout and the fact that for years and I mean years they where building cars that either had bad transmissions or bad parts in them. We are talking Motor to Transmission problems. My parents owned a GM that would fry its Auto Transmission because the Transmission wasn't able to handle the Engine that was on the car and none of the GM approved Transmissions could. GM was a company that needed to collapse so that the market could go to companies that care about their customers which are why two companies Nissan and Toyota are doing so well. Then you have Ford which should of been the company to buy up some of GMs plants and the people who worked their to build cars for them. As for the UAW not sure they my not care to much as the people in Mexico might be a part of UAW also one of the only reasons we have car companies like Toyota and Nissan is because it is cheaper to build cars here and sell them than build cars in Japan or other parts of Asia and then sell them here.

Beats me. I really think we need to be more business friendly I mean even the UAW as a private union has to realize that they can't have a membership if the company goes out. I mean the Union I am a member of makes concessions to keep the company profitable so that the members keep their jobs. But I am in a Different industry completely so I don't know how the UAW works and also who knows now that they have a Share in the company that would mean that the Union is interested in what will make the company profitable and as I said GM for the most part doesn't have a really good rep for most of their brands so its possible that the Mexico plants are so that they can get into another market that might not be as dominated by Ford, Toyota and Nissan. That would be a smart Business move on their part move to a place that may be undercapitalized. Like I said I have no Idea on the lack of outrage but maybe because its the Republicans fault or Bush's at this point I have no idea what the left is thinking. I am very much a conservative on most things as I want the smallest government possible that can still get its constitutional job done. As for the GM moving to Mexico I am just speculating based on what I picked up in the few college classes I took.

I think that pretty much sums it up, though somewhat harshly. GM vehicles go down the road most of the time. I will elaborate, the reason the UAW is probably the reason those jobs aren't here or coming back. According to CNN, a senior worker costs the company about $150,000/year and a new one $50,000. According to a business report, Mexican auto workers with pay and benefits cost the company about $7000/year. At a plant of 2,000 workers, that's ((150,000+50,000/2)-7,000)x2,000)= $136,000,000+ per plant per year in savings on labor alone. The alternative to make up that margin would be to sell GM vehicles in the range of $150,000 for a Chevy Cavalier and about $600,000 for a Cadillac. Basically, the UAW making $25/hour and up for unskilled, factory jobs the past many years is why Detroit is bankrupt. Maybe if the UAW hadn't overrun reasonable job pay, and the GM big shots hadn't taken huge paychecks the company wouldn't be bankrupt, the jobs might even still be in America. The UAW doesn't care though, they're all comfortably retired. It's their grand kids that can't a job now. Maybe this lesson should be well learned, as it applies to a lot more of America than just the auto industry.

I agree I do think they need to bring back jobs from over seas and put our American people back to work such a shame on the GOvernment for not doing this. I think that COmpanys that sent jobs over there should pay a penalty for not bringing them back home!

What penalty would you put on the Obama administration and the UAW for not bringing jobs back from other countries?
