A competing life.

I knew a girl who's drive was competition. She was always striving to be better than everyone and she was very aggressive and enthusiastic. Sure she was smart, active, athletic, and all-around kind of gal, but I felt she lacked some individuality. Even when she tried to be creative, it became a competition that it lack a sort of uniqueness. So it makes me think that living life as only a competition is a bit... sad. I know it's important and it's hard not to do since we all compare each other to everyone.. but I felt she cannot live alone, she'll always need her opponents. Anyways, is your life a competition? Or do you take a look at yourself sometimes? Thoughts?

I am driven but not in a competition type way. I don't want to be better..I want to do better. And not better than anyone else..it is me that I am trying to satisfy. I thinkt here are people that live for competition. There is a fine line between determination and obsession though. Gotta watch out for that..lol.

competition is good to better one's self. it can even be healthy but it can be dangerous to a person when it kind of sink in that no one can beat her or him. defeat will not be easy to take. some are even sour losers. some can do damage.

I have learned from experience and, yes, I do look at myself sometimes. I have never been competitive. Not a part of my make up. I have known some very competitive people in my life however. They would knock anyone down who got in their way and walk over them to get to their goal. I think a bit of competitiveness is a good thing but as in anything, Too much is not good.

Hi Lore, The only competitor is me, myself and I. With this I mean that I strive to perfect myself in any form of errors. I do reassess my life continuously but simply to re-evaluate any past mistakes. I can't see how I could be happy competing with others as to me that would make me obsessed and perhaps make bad judgements. What is right for one is certainly not right for all.

I would not say my life is a competition, I do compete against myself but that is to make myself a better person. I strive to improve my skills as a writer to push my creativity to it's limit. People want to compete against others because they need to be better than others it's for their own self esteem. Nothing else.

Well , I think a person can always compet himself and improve himself instead of compet against everyone else and comparing himself to everyone else. In my experience , me and my best friend had another friend who was a competitive and we didn't like his attitude. after a year or two , we ended our friendship because of a little argument. for example , he won most of the times in the bowling games and was very overwinning about his winnings (laugh at us and tell us he was a better player) and we didn't like it. He just had to change his attitude and try to break his own records , not just comparing himself to us all the time. That way we could have more fun playing with him , for fun. That way we could still be friends...

I don't compete with anyone. There are people I want to be like and have the things they have but it only helps me to try and reach those goals. If they can do it so can I. Everyone's life follows a different path. I don't have a need to say hey look at me I am the best. I am more secure than that.

I think competition pumps up inspiration of living life. Although, as you said, it could diminish creativity. What I like about competitions, though, is that it keeps you active and lessen the dull moments. I never liked having those moments because it's plain boring that way.
